I've "rescued" an original birth & baptism certificate for Eduard Wilhelm BOHN the son of Joseph A. BOHN and Amalia LANG. Eduard was born 28 January 1877 and baptized 29 January 1877. It appears that the godparents were Alma KUHLMANN and Mathilde MUELLER standing in for Wilhelm A. BOHN. The certificate is signed by Joseph A. BOHN pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Presque Isle County, Michigan. The entire certificate is in German so I think I have most of this correct, however, I could be translating something incorrectly. Just in case it is a clue, I believe that the babies godmother, Alma Mathilda J. KUHLMANN of Rogers City, Presque Isle, Michigan married Joel D. DRUCKENMILLER on 13 November 1881. I'd love to find the family and return the certificate to them so that it can once again become the cherished family heirloom which it should be. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

I am looking for any information about my great grandfather, William Bohn. He was born in Germany in Aug 1872 and was married in Pennsylvania in 1900 according to the 1910 census. His cousin, Walter Rahn, was born in Nuremburgh, Germany around 1910 and became a POW in WWII. I have three lines traced back overseas and would like to know what are some effective approaches to gather information from Germany. I am fairly new to this game and just when I was learning the ropes for the US, I need to bridge the ocean. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. E. Bohn
Hello all...looking for any information regarding the above surnames. All were residents of KY and OH from at least. Bohn and Layer from 1904 to present (of German and Hungarian Descent. Bohns were shoemakers and the Layers (various spellings) were considered to be wealthy people in there homeland. Laugh was of Cherokee descent and records for a May Laugh born in OH - Married a George Garrard. Later Helen, their daughter married a Bryan Sanders and had their first child Mary on Nov. 15th, 1917. Does this look remotely familiar to anyone? Thanks for any and all help in this matter. Regards, Diane
If you know where they were living in 1860 (census?) look for a history of the town or county. Try http://www.usgenweb.com/ for leads. A history written in the late 1800s might have something on the family, and likely would have something on the Civil War units that were recruited in the area. Might even have rosters. If you can find his unit (or maybe even if you can't) you can write to the National Archives for his pension file since his widow probably filed for a pension. The pension file might tell a lot about the family, probably at least when & where the couple married. Be flexible on the spelling of the surname: Bone, Bowen, etc. If you have a good guess at where they married, try for a marriage certificate. USGenweb probably has addresses, and http://www.rootsweb.com/ has mailing lists on many states and counties where you could ask for suggestions. For the email addresses of many people who have volunteered to be contacts for Civil War units, try my Civil War Units File. It is on the American Civil War Homepage at http://sunsite.utk.edu/civil-war/warweb.html under the heading of Rosters & Regimental Histories. HELP - I need help in locating my gg-grandfather. All I know is the name Bohn - his wife's name was Lizabeth Hansberry and the names of their three children, Mary Elizabeth, b 3/10/1857 in Madison, Dane Cty., Wisconsin, Frank, and Mont. One source said Mr. Bohn was born in Holland and his wife born in Ohio. Mr. Bohn supposedly was killed in the Civil War and Lizabeth remarried to a Mr. Pyle. The daughter, Mary Elizabeth Bohn. married my g-grandfather in Gage County, Nebraska in 1874. Does anyone have any information on the Bohn family. Thanks Phyllis Carson
Hi Cindy, It looks like both families are different from yours. But I will tell you a little of it. Conrad Bohn, b. abt 1827 in the German Duchy, Kassel, Hesse, Germany. Wife, Friederika (?), b. abt 1835 in Prussia (Germany). 2nd wife Anna George b. 1849. Many children from both wifes of: Gebhard, Carl Conrad,Alfred Otto, Amelia, Carrie, Thekla, Helen Marie, Florence, Elsie A., Edna C., George W., Conrad E., Norman G., Alfred, Francis. I believe Conrad Bohn's brothers were George, b. 1833 in Prussia who married Christina Winter; and a Gebhard Bohn, b. 1835 in Prussia. 2nd family haven't tied Conrad to Heinrich Bohn - yet. Heinrich Bohn b. 1816, married Anna Catherine Schwartz, b. 1822 in Germany. I don't know anything about his parents or brothers/sisters. Sorry but I don't think they are tied together. Hi! I figure your Bohn family tree is a different one than the one I am seeking information on, but figured it would not hurt to ask. You said you have a lot of information on the Bohns, so thought maybe you had come across information on the Bohns I am seeking. I have conflicting information from a marriage and a death certificate for George P. Bohn. (1868-1941) One says his father was John-born in Alsais Lorraine Germany (married Catherine Miller) and the other says his father is Herman Bohn-also born in Germany. George had a brother Lawrence. The family moved to the city of Webster in New York and I have been unable to get any information there. If you have come across any information that would help me, I would appreciate it. Thanks! Hello from Kansas, USA, The Bohn family is on my husband's side. His grandmother was Adelia L. Bohn Hogan, born 12-29-1879. Adelia's father was Heinrich "Henry" Bohn, born about 3-1-1859. On his headstone it reads born 1860. He was born in Hesse, Kassel, Germany. He died 4-16-1942 in Rochester, Minnesota and buried at Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona, Minnesota. He married Amelia Becker 7-16-1879. Henry's father and mother are: Heinrich Bohn born about 1816 in Germany and Anna Catherine Schwartz, born 1822 in Germany. They had six children: Adam, Dietrich, Henry, John, Jacob, and Elizabeth. Do you think this is the same Heinrich Bohn? I have a lot of information on the Bohn's if it is and am willing to share. My husband's aunt, Ruth Hogan Roberson, said that the story is that they left Germany to get away from the Kaiser's army. Another Bohn, was Conrad Bohn (who lived in Winona, MN) and who came with his wife to America. I think he was a cousin but have not documented it. Am anxious to hear from you. My niece lived in Germany for a year with a host family for school. She loved it.
