There is an .exe file attachment. DO NOT OPEN THE ATTACHMENT! It seems that something crawled into my files and sent this out. 1. [BOHN-L] My family
    2. Marion Sperry
    3. As a little girl, I realized that the Bohn name was the only name in the telephone books. I began to wonder if we were the only Bohn family in the world. But after my Dad passed away I had his death certificate and when I started reading it I found out that he was born in Illinios. Oh, I said, there must be some family. I then went to the local Mormorn library and there my search began. I began looking in the cencus. In the 1880's I found my dad as a two year old child but I also found his parents. With several other children. When I went to the next cencus, they were gone. They went to the land rush in Oklahoma. They left Illinois. I contacted a lady in Clark County, Illinios who did research. There she found a book written by a Dorothy Bohn Gravlund. and there she had my family. She was my grandfathers neice. My Grandfather had a brother. It didn't take me long to get on the telephone to make a call. What a surprize. I had a cousin! The next year I decided to take a trip to ClarkCounty Illinois, What a wealth of Information I found. The original records of my G. G. grandfather, Ludwig (Lewis) Bohn. I found information of my G. grandfather, and my Granndfathers family. In the court house in Clark County they had some original records of Ludwig. He came across the country in cover wagon with his family from Pa. After that every thing kinda just unfolded for me. I got so excited that I found so much information. The following year my daughter and I traveled back to Pa. It was so wonderful again to find some of the original records of the Bohn family. To see where my ggg grandparents lived and also to find some records in the Christ Evangelical Luthern Church in York Pa. To see pictures of the original church. I am still searching, My desire is to find where they came from in Germany. I could go on for a long time of the information that I have found. It has been wonder ful to discover all this history of MY GREAT FAMILY. Oh, by the way, I discovered that I had four cousin's ( I mean Live One's) In Oklahoma. What a Thrill. KEEP SEARCHING YOU CAN FIND YOUR FAMILY. I have found information on all of my Grandparents. My family line is . gggg Grandfather Valentine Bohn. ggg Grandfather Johan Nicholas 1732, His son Ludwig 1766, Philip Bohn 1806. Then My Grandfather born (Who my parents Named me after). Marion Bohn 1746, then my Dad , Perry Bohn 1879 I continue to search, Longing for more information on my family Marion Bohn Sperry

    1. [BOHN-L] Why I started doing research for the Bohns
    2. Leroy & Shirley Dees
    3. I started doing research about a year ago almost as soon as we got our computer because I have always been curious about my mother's family. Grandfather John Bohn was always so mysterious about things. It was rumored that he deserted the army because he was sick of all the killing in the Turkish war. What year that was I have not found out yet. And his wife Grandmother Anna Elisabeth Layer-Laljer-Lalyer didn't talk much about things either. It was rumored that her family was upset when she married him and they were both wealthy. Grandfather was an interesting man as he spoke several languages and was very intelligent. I have always since I was a child been so curious to know where they lived and how they lived and why they came to the states. We have not found many answers yet. But we are working on it. All of us. He wouldn't talk about family much. He was born in Hungary and we just recently found out his mother's name, which was Barbara Kiefer, thanks to my cousin Charles Bohn and his wife who been researching around Cincinnatti, Ohio. I have found many Bohns and Kiefers around the Toranthal area on the 1880 radix locator map of German families in Industry for that era. There are 5 or 6 of us working and researching. We met while visiting research boards and have got close and email one another as often as possible and let each other know about new research sites and info we find. I am so glad I met them. It is so enriching and I have learned so much about other countries and cultures. I have emailed and heard from many wonderful people like my family members I just found last year. I have been given access to a whole world of info that I could not have without my computer and I will continue to share with other family members and hope that I find more soon. I have even started a website on My Family.com. called the Gregg-Dees-Bohn Tree site. Family culture and pride is so important to the developement of self esteem in a family member. It gives that sense of belonging and pride that we experience when we find new info about a cousin or grandparent. And I love it. Shirley Dees

    1. [BOHN-L] Why I do genealogy
    2. Bette Sears
    3. I started out by giving my cousin some information on my family, she is just doing her direct line. Then I decided to take the search a little further and started from where she left off. By doing so I have found cousins I did not know existed. I research both my sides and my husbands. His side has been a brick wall the size the the Great Wall of China. It took me 6 years to see his grandmothers name in print, and still can not go beyond her. Like everyone else with the genealogy bug I will not stop looking. By belonging to the liss that I do I like to hear how others have found family and hold great hope for me to do the same. the most discouraging factor in my research is that when my husband was in Germany with the Army we only stationed about 45 mile from where my fathers mothers family came from and did not know it. 1. [BOHN-L] Why I do genealogy
    2. My husband and I got interested in genealogy from his great uncle who did it on his side of the family. It was so interesting to hear him talk about his family. We started out slowly, just spending what time we could and money we could on genealogy. It doesn't really cost much getting information from family at first. Now of course we are into it more and spend more money on it. All the information is so interesting and it is great to know what kind of work our ancestors did. We learned what kind of life they had where they lived. On one side of my family I found a book someone else had wrote and it goes back to 1500 in Germany. On my Bohn side of the family I found where they lived in Prussia, which is now Poland and we went to visit the area in Oct 2000. We hired a guide and she was a great help. We went to Sophiadam where my great grandmother (she was German) lived and there were was a man that showed me where the Bohn family lived, the house is not there anymore. He was born in one of the houses and remembered all the families (11 families) and where the houses stood. It was a beautiful area. Then we went to where the church was, that my great grandmother was confirmed in. We heard about the huge beautiful church, but it had been torn down in 1950 by the communist. But, out in the cemetery we found a piece of the church that had a decoration on it and we brought it back with us and my husband framed it and it is on my living room wall. I feel like a detective sometimes when I come to brick walls. I have problems tracing my great grandfather who was a Methoist German Espicopal minister.. I can find some church information on him , but still don't have a birth date , or place or a death date or cemetery for him. My family is amazed that I have found all that I have. I have followed up on a great uncle who was a well known painter and now his paintings are becoming valuable. I am waiting to see if he will be considered an "Old Master". To me , Genealogy is very interesting and enjoyable. I have also learned a lot of history while researching. I have met relatives I never knew I had and that is very enjoyable , also. I could go on and on! The internet is very helpful and getting more and more information out making it a lot easier to do genealogy. The genalogy lists are great. I could go on and on so I had better quit now. Thanks to all the genealogists working on the internet to get more information out. Bless them . Bev

    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Carrie BOHN, Jean CUMMINGS, Jean's Brother, and May HOWES taken at the Wadell & Moody Studio on Holden Street in Warrensburg, Missouri. The photograph was given "To May HOWES" and was probably taken in the 1880's when all four subjects were in their teens or 20's. I'm hoping that someone from one of the families can be located so that the photograph can be returned to its rightful place with family. If you are a member of one of these families or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    1. [BOHN-L] Question
    2. Diane Riffe
    3. Does anyone on this list have BOHN's without middle names? This is the one main clue in our lineage that helps us to eliminate many BOHN's we come across. It wasn't until my Dad's generation that our lineage was given middle names. Also, two stories are rumored among our line. The first is that the BOHN's were shoemakers from Germany (specifically Alsace/Lorraine). Another is that they were of royal lineage. I tend to believe this to be true as we do indeed have the coat of arms for our BOHN family. It contains the shield...the lions...an anchor...and a yellow cross which separates the four areas of the shield in which these items are contained. The make-up of the coat of arms is blue and yellow for the most part. There is a plume of feathers above the shield and to the left and right of the shield as well. We were able to obtain the shield in Wiesbaden Germany in or about 1970-72, when my father was stationed there. I am curious to know...what other BOHN stories exist in the different\same lines? Stories are always a wonderful tool when names don't seem to provide the necessary link we may be looking for.....I also have a website for Alsace\Lorraine for those of you interested but I will have to drum it back up again. I did write them to obtain information on the LAYER line (Laljer/Lalger etc.). This lineage is also supposed to be from Alsace\Lorraine. Many documents note Hungary as well so I am not certain if this was after the Alsace\Lorraine time or before....in any event....I would love to hear about stories of the other BOHN lines and what they did or what was rumored through the years...I'll bet we can come up with some interesting things and perhaps a link or two... =)

    3. "George, who the heck was your father?" I'm looking for the parents/family and birth info for George Bohn who died in 1849 in Franklin County, Pa. I am descended from his son Adam Bohn 8/7/1828-7/3/1890, also of Franklin County. In my researching, I've come across information on the family of Johanne Diel Bohn of Maryland and believe there's a good chance that there's a connection there but I've been unable to find anything to point me to any information about George Bohn prior to his death. Is anyone else out there working on the family of George Bohn or has anyone come across any information that might get me started around this brick wall? Thanks. -----Original Message----- From: Lanier, Lois [mailto:LLanier@AACPS.org] Sent: Wednesday, July 18, 2001 8:47 AM To: BOHN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [BOHN-L] From the listowner Bohn-L is much to quiet!.
