What are your "gold nuggets" in doing your research? What sources have you found to be especially useful? Recently I've (re)discovered the value of obituaries in doing family research. I've been working on my maternal lines, trying to bring them down to the present day. Obituaries have proven to be very helpful. I've found very recent obits, as well as archived obituaries on these kinds of pages: --local newspaper homepages (these are sometimes searchable for free) --Rootsweb and USgenweb --library archives --Ancestry.com newspaper archives Does anyone else on Lanier-L have research nuggets to share? Help!!! Conrad Bohn and family migrated from Bell, Germany in 1852 to WI. I have searched all east coast ship arrivals to see when they actually arrived and on what ship. Can anyone advise me where else to turn to find that information. Thank you.

Looking for any military information on Charles F. Bohn of Wisconsin from the Civil War. He was reportedly killed in the war, but was not and when returned home found his wife and family missing. Phyllis Carson
I recently sent a request for info on Charles Bohn from Wisconsin - I received one report that was very interesting and I am now looking for more information. My Charles F. Bohn married Elizabeth Hansberry in 1855. I show they had three children: Mary Elizabeth, b in Wisconsin in 1857, John C. Fremont, b in Iowa in abt 1862/3 and Frank, b ??. Mr. Bohn enlisted and fought in the Civil War. It was reported he was killed and his wife and children evidently left Wisconsin and went to Iowa to either live with her parents or be close by. (Son John was born at this time) According to the report I received, Mr. Bohn was not killed in the Civil War, but had been reported as dead. He returned to Wisconsin and could not find his wife and children and did not know where they had gone. He remarried in 1865. Did he divorce his first wife? Did he comit bigamy? His first wife also remarried in 1865 and moved to Nebraska. Does anyone have any more information on this family. Phyllis Carson
Is anyone researching BOHN from the Wenderhausen/Tann (Hesse) area?? Thanks-Suzan www.sdrescher.net
Does anyone have any information on a Charles Bohn who married Elizabeth Hansberry. They had three children, Mary Elizabeth b abt 1857, John C. Fremont Bohn, b abt 1863 and Frank, b unknown. Charles was killed in the civil war and Elizabeth remarried a George Pyle in 1865. In the 1870 census I find Mary Elizabeth with her Grandfather Joseph Hansberry in Nebraska and John is with his Uncle Albert Hansberry also in Nebraska. It shows Mary as having been born in Wisconsin and John born in Iowa. Where is Charles from originally - who are his parents - where was he killed - what state was he serving from in the war - what happened to Frank? These are the many questions I have - does anyone have any answers. Thanks Phyllis Carson
Hello list, Does anyone have any information on Magdalena Mary BOHN? She married Conrad HEDDESHEIMER in Germany. They were born in 1840's, I think. They later moved to Missouri. alappel@hbcomm.net Thanks, Adam
