    1. Bahn/Bohn, York Co. PA
    2. lois kleinhenn lanier
    3. Hi, Candy: I'm not directly descended from the Bahn family of York County, but am descended from the Bohn family. My oldest identified ancestor is Philip Jacob Bohn, b. 1732, d. abt 1780. I've often wondered if there's some connection. In an article from the York Dispatch (mar. 11, 1933), the author says there are two York County Bahn/Bohn families. . ."one predominantly Lutheran which settled in teh vicinity of Glen Rock and which orignially spelled the name Bohn [mine}; and the other family, predominantly of the Reformed church, which took up land in the Kreutz Creek valley. To the best of our knowledge the two are not relatedl; our article will trat the Bahns of the Kreutz Creek settlement." If you'd like a copy of the article, let me know your snail mail address and I'll send it. I also have a Bahn family history (4 pages), author unknown. It's a history of Johann Nicholas Bahner. I also have "Annals of The Bahn Family", author was the gre-grandson of John Henry Bahn. I have family charts for some of the descendents of Henry Kaluss or Johan Nikolaue Bahn (1680-1740) Many of these papers came from Carole Bahn, via Marian Bohn Sperry. I have a note on Cassandra Bahn, who md Henry Strickler. My line also married into the Strickler family, so perhaps that's a connection. Also records on Elizabeth Bahn md. Matthias Blausser; Hannah Bahn md. John Sheffer; Henry Bahn md. Maria Dosch; Henry Bahn md. Liddie Bortner; Valentine Bohn adn Nicholas Bahn, Levi Bahn, son of John Bahn and Polly Schwartz; Jacob Henry and Samuel Bahn land record; will of Eliz. Bahn, died 1894. My Bohn line goes thus: Philip Jacob Bohn (b. 1732, d abt 1780) md. Maria Elizabeth Johann Valentine Bohn (c. 1759-1814), md. Catharine Hollinger Valentine Bohn (1793-1854) md. Barbara Strickler (dau. of Henry and Anna Rhode Strickler Adam Bohn (1817-1881) md. Hannah Stouffer Emmert Frank Carlos Bohn (1869-1928) md. Wilda Jennie Knapp Carl Frank Bohn (1895-1988) md Pearl Lavonne Gilbert Coila Genevieve Bohn (1920) md. C. Melvin Kleinhenn Lois Kleinhenn (1940) md. C. I am looking for his parents. I have been told it might be James Bohannon who was married to a Frances. I found them in Stokes Co., NC also. The family may have originated in VA. Please note the similarity to mine: loisl@wam.umd.edu (that's loisL, as in Lanier) If you've sent me a message and haven't heard from me, perhaps the message went to the wrong person. Try again! 3. Apparently, another spammer has been hitting on our lists again. In order to prevent this from happening to our mailing list--and driving all crazy--I have changed the "rules" which the server will accept. For your purposes, this means that only people who are subscribed to the list will be able to post messages to the list. If you try to post to the list (with a modified address, for example) and it doesn't work, let me know and I'll subscribe your alternate address. This is a preventative measure. We don't want another crash like with had with MAISER (our former server). Let's hope it works without too many inconveniences for all of us. 3. Hi, All: Just a note to let you know that I will be in Russia on business from June 11 - July 3. I don't anticipate any problems with the list. However, if you do have difficulties, try to post a question to the list. I think there are several people who have experience with rootsweb lists. I'm sure they'd be glad to help you. My 8-year-old and I leave Wednesday and arrive in Frankfurt at 7 a.m. on the 12th. Then we fly to Samara, Russia. Wish I had more time in Germany, but we only have one day on the return trip--sigh. I'll be in touch with you all again when I return (since e-mail is erratic in the city where I'll be.) 1. Re: Bohn Family
    2. Hi, Although there are no direct ancestors in my lineage with the Bohn surname, I have a 5th cousin with that surname who lives in Gamshurst, Baden. His lineage came from Oberbruch. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to match up your Bohn's with the ones in Gamshurst or Oberbruch. You may have some luck in Leiberstung because Joseph Bohn, who settled in Oberbruch had a notation by his name that his father, Michel was "von Leiberstung". I have the name "Knab" in my ancestry. They are from Unzhurst (up the road from Gamshurst) The other two surnames i'm not familiar with. Good luck...if you have questions, I will be more than happy to help if I can. Write: TAllgeyer@aol.com I reside in Cincinnati. Our baseball needs lots of help, too.!!!!

    3. Welcome back to the BOHN discussion! A couple of pieces information about Rootsweb and how it is different than MAISER (our former server): You don't need to subscribe again to the discussion list; if you received this message, you are already subscribed. If you receive this message two times, let me know. That means you are probably subscribed twice. TO REPLY TO A MESSAGE WHICH HAS BEEN POSTED: The default for Rootsweb is to reply directly to the sender, but NOT to the entire group. If you want to respond to a message which has been sent to the group and you want the entire group to read it, you will need to send a new message to BOHN-L@rootsweb.com. I think there is a way to override this option. However, I prefer to see how everything is running before I start changing all the defaults. Let's give it a few weeks. IS ANYONE ON THIS LIST A ROOTSWEB LISTOWNER? Would you be willing to tend this list while I'm out of the country? {I'll reciprocate!} Lois Kleinhenn Lanier Listowner: Bohn Family Genealogy List Kleinhenn Family Genealogy List Lanier Family Genealogy List Sisler Family Genealogy List

    1. BOHN WELCOME MESSAGE
    2. lois kleinhenn lanier
    3. ********** WELCOME TO BOHN-L ********** My name is Lois Kleinhenn Lanier. I'm the "owner" of this list. That means I'm responsible for keeping it running as smoothly as possible and setting some rules for its operation. Don't be intimidated by the length of this message. If you print it out and study it, it will be helpful to you. Don't delete it; keep it handy. It may save you lots of problems and headaches in the future. Save and refer to these instructions. ===================================================================== WHAT IS THIS LIST? This is a discussion area for anyone who has an interest in genealogy and history (as it relates to genealogy) of the BOHN family and related families. ===================================================================== YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES This list is a cooperative effort. It will work well if we all keep the following in mind: 1. Keep this message. I recommend printing it and putting the hard copy where you can find it easily. 2. Read this message, even though it's a bit long. It will give you an idea of how the list operates. 3. Don't be afraid of all this computer stuff. Follow the instructions to the letter and you usually won't have a problem. Believe me, I'm not a computer expert, and if I can do it. . . . . . .. . 4. If you decide to leave the list, make sure your name is removed. (See "UNSUBSCRIBE note below.) The server that sent you this list handles thousands of messages a day. If your address becomes "bad", then we start getting bounced messages. 5. Remember two addresses: a. If you need help, contact me. My address is Loisl@wam.umd.edu (that's Loisl--the final digit is alpha, not numeric) B. To post a message to this list (one that goes to all other subscribers), send it to BOHN-L@rootsweb.com 6. Do not flame people (send argumentative or critical messages) on the list. 7. Most e-mail programs can send attachments (attached files). Don't send these to the list. Some programs will send a small attachment with your signature or something like that and you can't shut that off; that's okay. This isn't a problem for the mail server, but these can cause some subscribers' machines to lock up, make then lose all their mail, even crash their hard drives. ===================================================================== ARE THERE OTHER LISTS LIKE THIS? Yes. Check the lists at rootsweb: http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/lists.html or check http://www.eskimo.com/~chance/ http://users.aol.com/johnf14246/gen_mail.html ===================================================================== I DON'T LIKE WHAT SOME PEOPLE SAY ON THIS LIST! The list is not moderated. Any message sent to it is automatically bounced back out to everyone on the list. While I in no way want to stifle free discussion, as list owner I reserve the right to step in if a flame war erupts, if some thread (a series of messages on the same subject) becomes tedious for other subscribers, or if someone becomes unseemly (excessive use of profanity, for instance). The most important key on your keyboard is the DELETE key. If you don't like a message, delete it. Don't respond to it. If you feel there is a serious problem caused by someone, send me a message at Loisl@wam.umd.edu. If you have a personal message for someone, please send it to their address, not the list server address. ===================================================================== TO SUBSCRIBE TO THE LIST Rootsweb uses SmartList, which is a little different that some. You have (currently) two ways to subscribe. To subscribe to the list for MAIL (individual messages), send this message SUBSCRIBE to this address BOHN-L-REQUEST@rootsweb.com ===================================================================== TO SUBSCRIBE IN DIGEST MODE If you would like to receive messages in digest mode (i.e. several postings are combined and sent to you together as a single large message), send this message SUBSCRIBE to this address BOHN-D-REQUEST@rootsweb.com ===================================================================== (NOTE: TO CHANGE FROM MAIL MODE TO DIGEST MODE or vice versa, you will need to unsubscribe from one mode and re-subscribe in the other.) ===================================================================== TO UNSUBSCRIBE FROM THE LIST To unsubscribe, send this message UNSUBSCRIBE to this address (for mail mode) BOHN-L-REQUEST@rootsweb.com or to this address (for digest mode) BOHN-D-REQUEST@rootsweb.com ===================================================================== DO NOT SEND "SUBSCRIBE/UNSUBSCRIBE" messages to BOHN-L@rootsweb.com!!!! The message will be posted to all subscribers. Instead, send to the "REQUEST" list (e.g. BOHN-L-REQUEST@rootsweb.com). ===================================================================== POSTING A MESSAGE To post a message which everyone will read, send it to BOHN-L@rootsweb.com ===================================================================== NOMAIL Smartlist does not have a NOMAIL command. If you need to stop mail for any reason, you must UNSUBSCRIBE. ===================================================================== ARCHIVED MESSAGES All messages are archived and they are searchable. Directions for using the archives are at the following URL: Http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/members/archives.html ===================================================================== PROBLEMS? Send me a message, being as specific as you can about the nature of the problem. ===================================================================== HAVE FUN! MAKE GENEALOGICAL CONNECTIONS! That's what this is all about. Lois Kleinhenn Lanier loisl@wam.umd.edu
