Hi All, Happy Easter! Dick Ott posted a request for parentage of Johann Diehl. Sorry I don't have any info before Johann. Here is the first four generations of Bohns that I know of. You can find more info at http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/k/r/o/Dean-E-Krout/. I don't know if we can or should attach files on this list, but if you send decendant data directly to me at deankro@aol.com I'll do the same. Descendants of Johann Diel Bohne Generation No. 1 1. JOHANN DIEL1 BOHNE was born 1711 in Germany, and died 1764. He married (1) UNKNOWN. He married (2) MARY Bef. 1741. Notes for JOHANN DIEL BOHNE: The first imprint made by our family on American soil was made at the port of Philadelphia in 1741. A ship called the "Marlborough", under Thomas Bell, Master, docked with a load of immigrants from the Palatinate of Germany. The ships port of embarkation was Rotterdam, Holland and it made one stop at Cowes, France. The ship's lists show that there were 72 male passengers, 16 years of age and over, on board - one of which was Johann Diel Bohne. There are three separate lists available in the Pennsylvania German Society publication of 1934: "Pennsylvania German Pioneers". The list are kept at the Pennsylvania Historical Society in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. From the Pennsylvania Pioneers publication we find the first list is #82A which is: "A list of all mens names and ages from 16 years and upwards on board the Ship Marlborough, Thomas Bell, Master." On page 293 of Vol 1 of the Pennsylvania Pioneers, we find in the second column, #16 the name "Dewaile Poon" and the age "30". Researcher Nellie Whedon says: "A photostat of the ships passenger list shows that Johann Diel Boone arrived in Philadelphia on the boat "Marlborough" in 1741. On the list of 72 names, he is number 47. His name is written in English and spelled phonetically as "Dewaile Poon", age 30. His middle name was used, and B is often mistaken for P when spoken by a German." Child of JOHANN BOHNE and UNKNOWN is: 2. i. NICHOLAS2 BOON, b. Abt. 1736, Germany; d. Aft. 1823, Carol County, MD. Children of JOHANN BOHNE and MARY are: ii. JACOB2 BOHNE, d. 1814, Franklin County, VA. iii. ABRAHAM BOHNE, d. 1826-1827, Rockingham County, VA. iv. MARY BOHNE, d. Bef. 1827, Washington County, TN. v. JOHN BOHNE, d. 1825, Montgomery County, VA. vi. ADAM BOHNE. vii. ELIZABETH BOHNE, d. Washington County, TN. viii. MARGARET BOHNE, b. 17431; d. 1814, Kreider Cemetery, Westminster, MD. ix. CATHERINE BOHNE, b. 17531; d. 1824, Kreider Cemetery, Westminster, MD. Generation No. 2 2. NICHOLAS2 BOON (JOHANN DIEL1 BOHNE) was born Abt. 1736 in Germany, and died Aft. 1823 in Carol County, MD. He married (1) ANNA MARIA Abt. 17602. He married (2) BARBARA Abt. 1777. He married (3) RACHEL DEBERRY August 03, 1815. Notes for NICHOLAS BOON: In Johann's will Nicholas is referred to as "my well beloved son, Nicholas". In 1823 he was included on the tax list for District #8 of Frederick County and was assessed L 145 of real and L 15 of personal property. At his fathers death Nicholas was appointed administrator of the will since the appointed executors failed to function. William Albaugh served as his security. The will was filed in 1764 and it would appear that Nicholas was not too diligent in carrying out the function of administrator for on October 15, 1777 Mr. Albaugh filed a petition with the court for a citation against Nicholas to show why the estate was not cared for. [Frederick County Minute Book, 1777-84, page 1] On July 12, 1777 Nicholas and Barbara deeded a section of the "Shear Spring" and "Boons Content" properties to Jacob Boon [Liber R.P., folio 207]. In that same year more of the Bohne land was sold by Jacob and then 1743 Nicholas sold the 40 acre plot known as "No Whiskey", which he had inherited, to Michael Waggoner [Liber W.R. #4, folio 283]. In 1814 records show that Nicholas sold a piece of land called "Hammonds Strife" to Thomas Donstan for $1,327.34 [Liber W.R. #46, folio 423]. Nicholas became a citizen of the United States by naturalization, along with a large group of German Prostants, on September 11, 1765. Prov Ct. Judgements D.D. #9, folio 3, Annapolis, MD. Show his name as Nicholas Boon. Nicholas was a member of the Committee of Observation of Frederick County, MD during the War of Revolution. This committee was an association of "Freemen" of Maryland organized to oppose British oppression. The members were known as "Associators". In the Maryland Historical Magazine, Vol. 11 page 164, his name is recorded as "Nicholas Bone". In 1790 the first census of heads of families of the United States was taken. Nicholas Boon is recorded on the Frederick County, MD list with an indication following his name of 2-3-6 meaning: two males over 16 years old, three males under 16, and six females. Children of NICHOLAS BOON and ANNA MARIA are: i. MARTIN3 BOON, d. 1839-1848. ii. JACOB BOON, d. 1839, Libertytown, MD. Notes for JACOB BOON: Jacob was a member of the Committee of Observation of Frederick County, MD during the War of Revolution. This committee was an association of "Freemen" of Maryland organized to oppose British oppression. The members were known as "Associators". In the Maryland Historical Magazine, Vol. 11 page 164, his name is recorded as "Jacob Boon". iii. ANNA MARIA BOON. iv. MICHAEL BOON, d. 1832, MD. v. ADAM BOON, b. Abt. 1761; d. 1837, Montgomery County, MD. Notes for ADAM BOON: Adam served active duty during the Revolution. Some unpublished documents of the Revolution record the name of Abrum Boone who took the oath of fidelity and support to the government with others of Frederick County in March 1778 [National Geneological Quarterly, Vol. 6, page 33]. In a Revolutionary War pension application, we find that in 1777 Adam lived with his father on his farm on Pipe Creek, Frederick County, MD. vi. CATHERINE BOON, b. 1763. vii. SUSAN BOON, b. 1769. viii. SOLOMON BOON, b. 1775; d. Aft. 1850, Libertytown, MD. Children of NICHOLAS BOON and BARBARA are: ix. CATHERINE3 BOHN, d. 1819, OH. x. ELIZABETH BOHN, d. 1820, MD. xi. JOHN BOHN, d. Abt. 1839, MD. xii. EVE BOHN, b. 1778; d. 1859, OH. xiii. BARBARA BOHN, b. 1780; d. 1853, OH. xiv. SUSANNA BOHN, b. 1785; d. 1814, MD. 3. xv. NICHOLAS BOHN, b. 1788; d. 1872, MD. Generation No. 3 3. NICHOLAS3 BOHN (NICHOLAS2 BOON, JOHANN DIEL1 BOHNE) was born 1788, and died 1872 in MD. He married CHRISTINA ROESSLER 1808. Notes for NICHOLAS BOHN: Little is known of Nicholas. The 1850 Census shows Nicholas & Christina living in Frederick County, MD. Children of NICHOLAS BOHN and CHRISTINA ROESSLER are: i. MICHAEL4 BOHN, b. 1809; d. 1877. 4. ii. EMMANUEL BOHNSR, b. 1811, MD; d. 1882, Beaver Dam, MD. iii. JACOB BOHN, b. 1814; d. 1880. iv. CATHERINE BOHN, b. 1825. Generation No. 4 4. EMMANUEL4 BOHNSR (NICHOLAS3, NICHOLAS2 BOON, JOHANN DIEL1 BOHNE) was born 1811 in MD, and died 1882 in Beaver Dam, MD. He married ELIZABETH SMITH 1833. Notes for EMMANUEL BOHNSR: Only the dates for Reuben are available at this time, but it is definite that Nicholas was the eldest and Reuben was the youngest. The others may not be in correct order. Children of EMMANUEL BOHN and ELIZABETH SMITH are: i. NICHOLAS5 BOHN. ii. ALICE BOHN. iii. LYDIA ANNE BOHN. iv. EMMANUEL BOHNJR. v. WILLIAM BOHN. vi. WESLEY BOHN. vii. RICHARD BOHN. viii. HENRY BOHN. ix. ELIZABETH MAY BOHN. x. REUBEN BOHN3, b. March 07, 1843, Johnsville, Maryland3; d. February 06, 1922, Mountain View Cemetery, Union Bridge, MD3; m. SUSAN ALICE WEANT, October 11, 1864, Detour, MD. Notes for REUBEN BOHN: After their marriage they moved from a farm near Keysville, MD. During the Civil War, Reuben received notice to report for Army duty but each time provided a substitute, in accordance with the law of the time. In 1906 they left the farm and moved to the vicinity of Ladiesburg, MD where they operated a grocery store in New Midway. They sold the store and moved into the town of Ladiesburg where they operated a general store. After selling this second store, they moved to the vicinity of Johnville, MD where he opened another store. Later in life they moved to Westminster, MD. > Do you know of any Bohn research pages? Please share the information. Here's one: http://www.genforum.com/bohn/ It's a query page where people can post about their BOHNs and read other's notes to see if anything matches. Genforum has these pages for many surnames (including VOLZ, another of my German families). From any of the pages you can search for surnames and request that new ones be set up. Searching for parentage and home village of Johann Diehl Bohn (1711-1764) who arrived in Philadelphia in 1741 on "Marlborough" with wife Anna Maria (Mary) and several children. Sometime afterward he was in Frederick Co., Md. It is said that he was from the Obermoshel region of Germany near the Nahe and Rhine Rivers althoug I have not been able to locate the family there. I also have extensive information on his descendants which I would like to share with others tracing their lineage from Johann. Dick Ott

Greetings, All: This list has been *very* quiet. I trust everyone has been well and busy over the winter months. Recently, several new subscribers have joined the list. How can we wake up the list and discussions for them? Here are some thoughts: 1. Post your most-wanted Bohn. (We tried this once before.) 2. Post the best Bohn genealogy resource that you've found. 3. Post your (brief) lineage. 4. Just post! Lois L. Have you seen the update to the Social Security Death Index? Check it out at http://www.ancestry.com/ssdi/advanced.htm I ran a search on BOHN and came up with about 2400 names. Included is last residence, date of birth, date of death, soc.sec. number, and place where social security card was issued. I have found the page useful in obtaining birth/death dates and places, especially for aunts and uncles. Obviously, the information is useful for only more recent relatives; Soc. Sec. began in the mid-1930s. Lois Lois Kleinhenn Lanier <loislanier@erols.com> Listowner: Bohn, Kleinhenn, Lanier, Sisler Genealogy Discussion Lists Support Rootsweb at <http://www.rootsweb.com>.
