    3. I am spreading the word about a new free website called Generous Genealogists. It has picked up and taken off from where Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness left off. As you may know, the RAOGK site crashed and was removed due to a series of unfortunate events.   Everything on Generous Genealogists is free. Volunteer genealogists share a variety of things. Some share knowledge or do lookups in hard to find reference books they own, while others offer to visit nearby archives or cemeteries. The site also offers coaching as well as access to online libraries and archives.   This site has only been up for 3 weeks but just had its 10,000th visit! It is a site which fills a real need. I am proud to say that I have joined up as a Volunteer Generous Genealogist so I can share the resources and knowledge I possess. I hope you will visit the site. Perhaps you will find a Generous Genealogist who can help you or perhaps you will choose to volunteer.    Here’s the website:     http://generousgenealogists.com/ Joan   Researching BOND, MEAGHER, and PELLERIN in Port Felix, Nova Scotia. 1. [BOHN] STRATTON - BOHN Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Russell Edwin STRATTON which was taken at the Halls Studio in Plainfield, Wisconsin. The photograph appears to have been taken in the early 1900's with Russell just 9 months old at the time the photograph was taken. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding Russell and his family: Russell Edwin STRATTON was b. 12 Apr 1907 in Colburn, WI to parents Daniel W. STRATTON (b. 1883 in WI) and Eva M. ALVERSON (b. 1884). Russell married Eleanor BOHN (b. 21 Jun 1915 in Waushara Co. WI) and together they had 3 children including Robert STRATTON b. after 1935. Russell died 18 Apr 1967 in WI. Census records provide the following information: 1910 census of Hancock Township, WI: Daniel STRATTON, age 28, married 4 years, born WI, parents born England/WI, a Farmer Eva STRATTON, wife, age 27, married 4 years, 2 children/2 living, born WI, parents born WI/NY Russell E. 1. [BOHN] Bond/Bohn in Nova Scotia Canada
    2. Joan
    3. Hi. I am new to this list. I am trying to find the parents of Henry William Bond/Bohn. Henry was born about 1825 in Nova Scotia Canada. He lived his adult live in Guysborough County Nova Scotia but there were no Bond/Bohn families there in either the 1838 or 1817 census. So I'm not sure where he in Nova Scotia he was born. I have a transcription of his 1856 marriage to Catherine Mary Snyder. In it he is called Henry Bond/Bohn. His parents are not listed in the record. In the 1871 census he states he is German. After that time he states he is either English or French and his name becomes consistently Bond. His wife's family were Hessian soldiers given land grants in Nova Scotia for their service to the British during the American revolution. I believe the same may be true for Henry's ancestors. I also believe Francis may be his brother. The two men married sisters, lived next door for their adult lives and both stated they were German in the 1871 census. Does anyone know of any Bohn families in Nova Scotia that my two men may be part of? Thanks for reading this. Joan Researching BOND, MEAGHER, and PELLERIN in Port Felix, Nova Scotia. 3. Somewhere in my files if I can find it- I have a photo of a Bohn family that went West by covered wagon. It was a very large family. When or if I find it I will send it to you. My computer files things away when I haven't looked at them for awhile. -----Original Message----- From: bohn-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:bohn-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of ken wilder Sent: Wednesday, February 02, 2011 3:47 PM To: BOHN@rootsweb.com Subject: [BOHN] Esther R. Bohn born 1907 in Wisconsin While researching my Wilder family from Jackson, Georgia I found that my great grandfather had a brother with a son, E.B.(Emerson B.) Wilder, born in 1897 in Georgia. In looking for E.B. Wilder I stumbled across an obit listing for Esther Bohn Wilder in the Palatka Daily News, Palatka, Fl. In the obit it mentions her husband as being E.B. Wilder of Jackson, Georgia. The obit for Esther stated she was born 03/16/1907 in Watoma, Wisconsin and that she died in Palatka on 04/29/2000 and that her parents were Wilhelm and Caroline K. Bohn and that they moved there in 1918. The obit said she was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Palatka. I did find an Oak Hill Interment list showing Esther and E.B. Wilder both buried there and E.B.'s death date as 1973. The obit mentioned that Esther and E.B. owned Wilder Desoto Plymouth Motor Company on Lemon Street in Palatka, that they were friends with Babe Ruth, took him fishing and supplied him with a car to drive when he was visiting. It further mentioned that Esther retired in 1983 from the Putnam County Tax Collectors Office. What I believe was Esther's family were in the 1900 Bristol Town, Kenosha, Wisconsin census under William F. Bohn and Lena S., 1905 Wautoma, Waushara, Wisconsin census as William F. Bohn and Lena L., 1910 Aurora, Waushara, Wisconsin census as William F. Bohn and Helena, 1920 Putnam County, Florida under W.F. Bohn and Caroline Kuehn, 1930 Putnam County, Palatka, Florida as William F. Bohn and Caroline L., 1935 Putnam County, Palatka, Florida as W.F. Bohn and Caroline. In the 1945 Putnam County, Precinct #1 is listed E.B. Wilder and Esther B. Wilder as his wife. Wisconsin birth records 1826-1926 show an Esther Rulie Bohn born 04/16/1907 in Wautoma, Waushara, Wisconsin and her paretns as Will Bohn, born in Germany and Lena Kuhn, born in Germany. 3. That doesn't sound familiar at all to me but I heard they went in different directions. One of my grandfather's brothers supposedly went to another country from the states. He didn't like it here and went on to Argentina. And I think that a Stephen Flanders was their sponsor as his name was on the ship records and a man by that name I found later had formed a travel group from the Old Country to go the America about that same time frame. There was an Anthon Bohn on the ship with them also. And a Michael Bohn was a name I found in some research but he lived in Lenaheim and I found ship records where Anna Elizabeth Bohn went back there in 1911 or so and the ship notes say she went to see her father. Maybe he was her father-in-law. She never spoke English. Never wanted to. They did come thru Ellis Isle as grandmother had said something about what she called the statue of liberty and the staff wrote it in her hospital records. I was told they were Romanian. She told the hospital staff often that her father was the king of Romania or Hungary. His name was Peter (Joseph?) Layer(spelling)Lahyier. I believe his mother was Marie Speiche and Altmeyer was another name I found on documents. Her family was from the Alsace Lorraine area of Germany and France border at that time. The borders changed often due to the wars and different treaties. I have a few photos of them. I have one unknown dark haired handsome woman in a photo with my mother and mom's grandmother who was Peter's wife and whose name was Theresa (Altmeyer) Layer. Theresa was very small. Do you have any photos of your Bohns? I found an unidentified photo of a very nice looking Bohn woman who was a ringer to my own daughter. Astonishing. -----Original Message----- From: bohn-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:bohn-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of ken wilder Sent: Monday, January 31, 2011 7:49 PM To: bohn@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [BOHN] Esther R. 3. Recently I saw a posting on World Connect by someone about Esther R. Bohn, born in Wi. and died in Palatka, Fla. It is my belief that she was married to E. B.(Emerson B.) Wilder from Georgia. E.B. was a son of one of my Great Grandfathers brothers. I tried to send a message to the person who did the World Connect posting but the e-mail would not go through. I will gladly share information I have with anyone interested in this possible connection. Ken Wilder
