Yes Edward,I found that out.The only thing is i can't actually find the one on our census records that would be an actual individual Melungeon.If one member was shown as a Mulatto or free person of color I would say we were melungeon.I do know there are those with the same surname who were but not yet found anyone in my direct line.I can tell you I and my cousins show characteristics of mixed ancestry. Two interesting people in my line are George Joseph who was the second husband of Rebecca Boggs York(my ggrandmother).He was said to be of Assyrian descent.Whether that is accurate or was used to cover possibly Negro or Indian ancestry ,I don't know.His sister Cassie Joseph married William Baker and was my gg grandmother also.Both were grandparents of my grandmother.There is also Sarah Alpha who was said to be Cherokee though I can't document it yet. Very interesting subject.Either way it turns out is fine with me,I enjoy the challenge of unraveling it all.Thanks for bringing it up. RoEllen
