Down from the Lowland area of Scotland ca. mid-1700's probably for religious reasons. He was a Covenanter, a sub set of the Presbyterians: Hance Boggs m. _____ Hance (Jr.) - born at Creevy near Loughbrickland in 1774. Received his theological training in Scotland. Ordained minister of the Rathfriland Reformed Presbyterian Church in 1802 and served there until 1811. Will dated 1836. Robert Archibald - will dated 1841 Elizabeth - married John Gordon of Tullyconnaught in 1792. John , James Archibald, Hans , Jane -married Hans Cumming and migrated to the US, Mary Elizabeth Sarah Mary - 1764.- 1833. married John Bell, 1785, and came to the US. where daughters were born. Elizabeth (Campbell) born 1786 Sarah (Huchman) born 1787 Ann (Herron) born 1789 Mary Boggs Bell came to Pennsylvania - Chester Co., then Lancaster (1800 census), finally Allegheny Co. I have the descendants of Ann Herron, if anyone is interested. Hance Cumming was living with his father in Saratoga Co. NY in 1820. A fellow Boggs researcher has found numerous Boggses in upstate NY. Counties. I have used used the research services of the Ulster Historical Foundation, Balmoral Buildings, 12 College Sq. East. Belfast BT1 6DD. I was pleased with what they did on other N. Ireland lines. I have also corresponded with a member of the Rathfriland Reformed Presby. Church who wrote in 1994 that he would be willing to make some local inquiries because he thought there were descendants of the Boggs family, as it's a familiar name there. (actually, he never did, but it's still a possibility) He recommended a book, "How to Trace Family History in Northern Ireland" by Kathleen Neill. Perhaps this will helpful to someone. Good hunting!
