Hello, I would like any information on a Boggs reunion in North Carolina. Do you have e-mail contacts? I came across this info about two Boggs brothers... This is from THE REGISTER of the Kentucky Historical Society ...Volume 76, 1978...page 276. Two members of the cast of Revenge (?1810) Liburn W.Boggs played the part of Zanga's mistress. His younger brother Joseph Oliver Boggs (called master Boggs because of his youth) played a minor female part in the farce. John M. Boggs was a tailor with a shop on Main Street in Lexington. His wife was the former Martha Oliver. Their two sons attended Transylvania Seminary. Lilburn was 17 years old at the time of the performance. Lilburn was a corporal in Captain David Todd's company during the victorious Thames expedition in 1813. In 1816 he settled in Missouri and entered the fur trade. The rest of the story ...you all know. Interesting note about the early amateur actors of Kentucky. Many of the amateurs appear on the rosters of military units from 1812-115. I don't think I am related to the Lilburn Boggs line. I will ask my question again....Do we know the connection if any...to this Boggs family, to the NC Boggs families? I live about an hour from Napa California...where Lilburn is buried. He died on his farm in 1860. I hear much about him ....but what about his ancestors? Thanks....Anne
I would be interested in hearing about the Boggs reunion held at Cains Creek in September. Please share information with the list. Thank you. Marcia (Geiger) Boggs

To my knowledge the presentation by Evelyn's was not recorded. I don't think many know that she would be there and were not prepared to record. Sorry. Dave
Dear Cousins. The Boggs reunion was held on Sept. 9th at a small Church on Caines Creek which is just outside Blaine, in Lawrence Co. Ky. Most there were descended from James L. Boggs who settled in that area. The reunion is held each year on the first Saturday after Labor day. This years reunion attracted about 60 cousins from as far away as Calif. and Colorado. Evelyn Ferguson was there from Colorado. Evelyn has more information than anyone I know about the East Ky. Boggs family. She spoke for about 20 min and was very enlightening. The food was great as always. We would like to see many more Boggs cousins attend next year. If you will keep my email address and get in touch with me next year I can give direction and accommodations information for anyone who would like to come. There is always lots of good information there. Dave Church dlchurch@bright.net
Paul, John "Pune" is my direct line. I have him on two different files as married to Louisa Stidham. Her birth date Nov. 1840 In VA. and death abt. 1889. Don't know where I got this originally but I have believed this to be the case for many years. I have no confidence in the dates for Louisa birth and death. Dave
I am being told that John H "Pune" Boggs was married two times. The first one to Mahala Griffith, married 12-12-1849. The second to Louisa J Stidham, married 1889.There was 10 children by Mahala Griffith. Can anyone verify this for me please. Thanks Paul S Boggs Miami, Fl

Hello Anne, I am looking for a Sam Boggs and a Doc Boggs. My father was Edwin Boggs from Columbus, GA. and I was told by my sister prior to her death that Sam and Doc were my dad's brothers. Do you have any info you can share? Thanks. Linda Boggs LBoggs1222@aol.com
Hello List: I wanted to throw my Boggs out there to see if I get any nibbles. Mine is Esther Boggs, b. about 1795, and I'm not sure where; possibly NC, SC or GA--(Gee, that really narrows it down!) She married Robert B. Fillingim in 1820 and moved to Escambia Co., FL, where they are recorded as pioneers of the county. I have references that she was indian as another descendant applied for a pension on the Cherokee but was rejected saying she was Creek... Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.... Hello, I live in Northern California and hear much about Gov. L W Boggs. In fact, I found many things written about the early Ca. Boggs families. However out of the many stacks of papers I could not find any connection to the NC Boggs families. My Boggs ancestors come from Chatam County, NC. Is there a connection between the NC Boggs and Gov. lw Boggs? Where was his family before KY? I am still looking for my Samuel Wilson Boggs. Where did his family come from? Thanks for your help. I really do enjoy reading your comments and questions. Thanks Anne <anne95616@yahoo.com>

Where does the information that he came to Missouri from New England come from, what is the citation. Lilburn W. Boggs was born in Kentucky. He may well have moved to New England at an early age (this branch of the Boggs family was gripped by wanderlust); but I'd like to have source of information if possible. Does anyone know what Gov. Lilburn W.'s middle name was for certain? All Missouri references I've seen cite him as Lilburn Wycliff (or Wycliffe) Boggs. But all California references I've seen state his name as being Lilburn Williams Boggs. I suspect that the California "Williams" reference may be a confusion relating to his grandson born in 1848 (by William Montgomery Boggs and Sonora Louise Hicklin) who was also named Lilburn W. Boggs; but I have not confirmed this. This branch of the Boggs family seemed to use family names as middles names--but not necessarily the names of any closely related families--rather strange. > > In 1826 he landed at Fort Osage, then known as Sibley, and became > engaged in merchandising in the riverfront town. Guess its time for me to dust off my genealogy notes and post my info again. Yes this is the same Lilburn W Boggs that became Governor etc. I have always been told we are related but have never been able to tie my info in. My Great Grandmother was Anna Irena Boggs daughter of Wilbur or (Wilburn) Boggs and Elizabeth Pollard of Kingston, Caldwell, Missouri. She was born on January 18th 1864, Married George Edward Smith on January 29th 1889 in Ray, Richmond, Missouri. She died on March 27th 1948 in Pittsburgh, Alleghany Co.,PA. I have never been able to tie the Boggs line in any further. If any one knows about my Anna Irena please let me know. Some of you have helped a lot & I guess its time to try again. I spent all of 1999 on Chemo therapy & am doing much better. Thanks for all past help. no relationship to me... and I have no further info. How is this Boggs related to Gov. Boggs, or the Boggs of KY? In 1824 Lilburn W. Boggs, at the age of eighteen, migrated from New England to St. Louis, a row of wooden buildings along the riverfront and the seat of the fur trade. He married into the fur trade group. His wife was JULIA ANN BENT, daughter of SILAS BENT. She died at an early age. In St. Louis, Boggs was named cashier of the Mission Bank. This was a nice start for the ambitious man, but Boggs did not conform to that mold; he was an adventurer and the frontier called. In 1826 he landed at Fort Osage, then known as Sibley, and became engaged in merchandising in the riverfront town. It was here that he married his second wife, PANTHEA GRANT BOONE, a granddaughter of DANIEL BOONE. From here they moved to Independence and he became a frontier merchant. As a popular citizen, he was appointed the first clerk of Jackson County, and his handwritings are to be seen in the first records. He wrote the contract for the first courthouse, as well as other buildings. As a merchant he was an agent for a patent medicine. In his advertising he claimed that his medicine was "unequaled in powers in eliminating from the human system, all the poisonous juices" and was good for "scrofula, white swelling, rheumatism and liver complaints." (1) It is not known just where his store was located, but his home was on South Spring, across from a large public spring, which gave the street its name. 1.
