Dear List, Please keep in mind that Virgil Lee would be 82 this year and has been in failing health for at least the past three years. Don't overwhelm him with heavy correspondence. You might consider purchasing his BOOK if he still has any in stock. Just possibly his wife is willing to run interference for him. The address is correct as provided by RLC. Dear Donald, You have the LUCK of The Irish. Your line in question is the same crew that Alice Carter Sturgis Grady (Ye Olde Editor-Publisher of the BNL) shares. I have a print out from Alice that I will attempt to scan and transmit to you. If this fails, I will Snail Mail it to you. This may move me top computerize the file. Please share your data with me when we get this all sorted out. I COLLECT DATA on ALL BOGGS LINES. I really like notes and family history to make a String of Names and Dates have a human face. Dear List Subscribers, A note on this subject: Virgil has not been active since at least 1997 with his Boggs Family Genealogical Association. I send Virgil my annual X-mas letter and to date it has not been returned. I can only assume that he is still alive but his last correspondence to me stated that he no longer functioned properly. Virgil's Association was not connected to the Boggs Newsletter or the Boggs FHQ. Virgil did submit some data to the BNL and corresponded with other contributors. The Boggs Newsletter was published by Mr. Kenneth C. Maggard, in 1978, then Alice C. Grady of Stow, MA between 1978 & 1987. Alice retired from this endeavor in 1987. Robert J. Boggs took up the burden in 1987, published for that year and went into inactive service. He resumed the publication as the Boggs Family History Quarterly in 1997-1998 and then went inactive again. I made a trip to FL to see Robert last year, it is my conclusion that he intends to remain inactive. If there is anyone with the skills, tools, dedication and inclination, I believe Robert would entertain the possibility of providing guidance & I should think source data used in the publication effort. I will be one of the first Boggses to subscribe to your Boggs publication and will be prepared to submit data for publication. All who published those Boggs publications did a super job. Robert J. did a world class job. DUPUYTREN'S DISEASE is a deforming condition of the hands in which one or more fingers, usually the ring finger and little finger, contract toward the palm, often resulting in functional disability. The disease effects older Caucasian males and there appears to be a heredity aspect. Noted famous sufferers include Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher. Is this condition known in your BOGGS family? Virgil Patterson became ill and the quarterly letter was taken over by Robert Boggs in FL. He was unable to continue for health and employment issues and had to drop it about two years ago. Nothing has been done since.
Can anyone help me? I'm searchin for information on some of my Boggs ancestors. These are the known facts. George boggs Sr. born 2/2/1777 probably PA. died 4/21/1858. he married wife #1 ?, #2 Julia Wrenshall in Pittsburg, PA, #3 Margaret ?. George Boggs Jr. born 3/25 1799, married Mary Jane Page 9/2/1824 in Steubenville, Ohio. died 1/22/1844. We think that Frances Boggs was his father. Frances born 1/24/1742 in Scotland, married Jane Campbell 10/17/1766 in Scotland, died 2/8/1826 near Pittsburgh. Both Frances and his son William are listed in the DAR Patriot Index. William and George were in business together between Pittsburgh and Phildelphia. Any information would be appreciated.
The 1992 address: Boggs Genealogical Association 250 72nd Avenue N St. Petersburg, FL 33702 Maybe somebody on the Boggs list has a more recent address/phone number for Virgil Patterson (Boggs Genealogical Association). Dear Joanne, Your data is on first glance accurate with what was published some years ago in The Boggs Newsletter VOL. VI. NO. 3, July 1983 by Mrs Jerre Broadus Noland aka Anna Turley (deceased). The ship from Scotland appears to be a new item of data. There are subscribers to the Boggs-L@Rootsweb who will see this data and are descendants of Robert Boggs & Margaret Robinson (Cousin Elizabeth B. this mention is for you). This is one of the more accurately researched and documented Boggs Lines. Many thanks to Joanne for this data. It was stuff like this that made the Boggs Newsletter & Boggs FH Quarterly such gems. disclaimer... I don't guarantee this information to be true... but I'm transcribing out of a book called Kentucky Records by Ardery, which I would assume would be correct. I am looking for BOGGS families in Australia. I know that there is official records of BOGGS individuals starting from 1837, but there is almost nothing on just BOGGS families on net. I only have a Elizabeth Agnes BOGGS (b. 1861, Armidale, NSW) whose parents were Thomas and Elizabeth A BOGGS. I have a list of this family but thats all. I would like to collect more info - so if you know someone or a site I could check, please do let me know. Cheers, Darlene Thornton from Down Under!

I have seen several references to the fact that our Boggs family is of Melungeon descent. Some of you might be interested in this website someone told me about today. It is "Historical Sketches of Southwest Virginia." The URL is: http://www.ls.net/~newriver/swva/swvahs.htm Scroll down the page to Publication No. 2 - 1966 and the subheading of "THE MELUNGEONS." It is the most complete story about the Melungeons that I have been able to find. Hope you enjoy it.
