Hello: I am looking for information about my my second great grandmother, Sallie Day Boggs Winn is 1831-1889 b Portland, Callaway County, Missouri; died Audrain County, Missouri. She married John R. Winn, her father may have been Lawrence Boggs. I note with interest in an old e-mail that there was a Sallie McMichen in the line mentioned below. Does anyone have any information connecting these two Sallies? Does anyone have any information on Sallie Day Boggs Winn or her ancestors (and siblings?) If you want more info about the Logan Elm (there's a moving speech by a native American connected to it), I'll be happy to supply it. R. Scott Perry This is quoted from a typed document, part of which was later reproduced as a newspaper story in an Ohio paper--don't know which one because all that was saved is the clipping. "The first John Boggs was born in England. He emigrated to America in the 1700's and settled in Pennsylvania. His son, the second John Boggs, known as the Captain, settled in Virginia. The 3rd John Boggs was known as the Major. His son, John Boggs, emigrated to Pickaway County, Ohio, and was the uncle of John M. Boggs and Lemuel Boggs. John M. Boggs settled in Tippacanoe County, Indiana, while Lemuel stayed in Ohio. One of John M. Boggs sons, Lemuel, has a son named John M. Boggs, who was the 7th John Boggs. Lemuel Boggs of Ohio also had a son named John G. Boggs, who was the sixth John Boggs. He now has a son who was the 8th John Boggs (1927). "Lydia Boggs, who was a great friend of Betty Lane, was the daughter of our great great grandfather. She married Moses Shepard soon after the time of this story "Betty Lane." Later after the death of Shepard she married Daniel Cruger. Lydia lived to be 110 years old. She never had any children, and was the eldest sister of our great grandfather, Major John Boggs, who settled at Logan Elm, Ohio, in 1778. "Lydia's brother William was captured by the Indians and another brother was killed. Major John, at that time, was six years old and the only boy in the cabin at the time of the Indian attack. The men were all away. William, who was captured, told the Indians that the cabin was full of men and the Indians were afraid to attack, and the women and children escaped to the Fort. "Lydia escaped from the Indians at one time by swimming her horses across the Ohio River. She lived and died in Wheeling, VA near Boggs Run. "Captain John Boggs and his son, Major John, came through the wilds of Ohio; the Captain settling on Scrip Creek, and the Major pre-empting land on the Congo, and building a cabin under the Logan Elm. He then returned to Wheeling, VA and married Sallie McMichen, our great grandmother (John M. Boggs's grandmother). She came to Ohio at the age of 19. She raised nine children. Our grandfather, Moses Boggs, was the last one born in the cabin under the Logan Elm. Two others, James and Sidney, were born in the brick house nearby, which house was still standing in 1923." ==== BOGGS Mailing List ==== ______________________________ ------------------------------
Dear Cheryl, I would like to exchange data in GEDCOM Format on your Joseph Boggs Line (from PA to SC) & connected to your James Boggs from Ireland lines. My data is largely from the Boggs Newsletter & Boggs Family History Quarlerly (both now demised). One of the Joseph Boggs contributors was Elmo Eugene Boggs, deceased in ca Jan 1987. You may already know about Elmo. My GEDCOM has notes from where the data was extracted, compiled or researched. I would anticipate that yours would contain the same. It will be extracted from my FTM program & can be prepared for FTM, Roots, PAF & possibly another program. State preferences. Edward, Lydia and Jacob Rose had a son named John ,b c. 1805. John Robert (Rose) Boggs, b Sept.28,1825 ,d July 1888 John Robert was not a Rose.Jacob Rose died Sept. 7,1814. Since James L.Boggs and Lydia Rose were living together when John Robert was born,it can be assumed that James L.was his father and that James L.and Lydia was not married. No one that I know has found a record of marriage for them, whichis the reason he was given the name,Rose. Lydia also had a son,Henry Rose,b in Green Co. Tenn.c.1819-1820,long after Jacob died. Henreys' father is assumed to be Henry Barger of Tenn. Hello all, I have two questions: 1) Is anyone researching Oliver Boggs, born @ 1811-1812 in Ireland and settling in Hamilton Township, Northumberland County, ON? His religion as of the 1871 census was church of England, Anglican. As of 1878 he was a farmer Concession A, 8 with Lot size 42. There are many Boggs in the Northumberland area. All are described as Irish, though 3 were born in Ontario.. The 1871 census includes: Name AGE Alexander Boggs 36 David Boggs 30 Edward Boggs 55 George Boggs 55 James Boggs 34 James Boggs 71 Laban Boggs 44 Margaret Boggs 54 Oliver J Boggs 32 Oliver Boggs 59 Robert Boggs 63 Thomas Boggs 42 William Boggs 27 I am trying to figure out if any of these are likely ancestors, and so far Oliver is my number one draft pick. 2) Still working on the mysterious 11 Boggs sisters. Gertrude and Fawn have been joined by Mary, whose married last name was Chase. Many thanks, Jennifer ** above information accessible from http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Gallery/5715/Northumberland/index.html by accessing 1871 Northumberland census. It includes information about occupation, religion, district, etc.

Good morning. A few days ago I made a posting informing you all of an accident involving Jeanette Hudson a fellow researcher on the Boggs and Church lists. I get almost daily updates on her condition and will pass these along to anyone who sends me there email address. Send your email address to dlchurch@bright.net Please keep those prayers coming for Jeanette. She is holding her own as of yesterday in an Atlanta hospital but is still very critical. Thanks--Dave Church
Dear List, Does anyone have a loose Margaret Boggs by which I mean unaccounted for?Her birth would be in the 1740s,could be earlier by a bit. She married in1761 in Phila.(Christ Church)to a Wm Watson. May have moved to Perry Co. ,PA. or perhaps Cumberland Co. Can't find her no how ,no way, or him either for that matter. My guess is she is out of the DE. Boggs but she doesn't show up on any of the lines. Merry Christmas one and all! Have a Cool Yule and a Frantic first! Aye, John
Hi List...Bear with me while I explain my quandry... As many of you know, I am descended from James (Charles) Boggs & Margaret Jane Sharp thru: John Attie Boggs & Susanna Drennin Lawrence Boggs & Elizabeth Newsom William Boggs & Mary Ann Hickman Juliet Frances Boggs & Lucas D. Smith Albert Lee Smith & Mabel Leona Chisholm (my grandparents) as well as: John Attie Boggs & Susanna Drennin Nancy Boggs & Marmaduke Williams Maria/Mariah Boggs & Lewis Hickman Mary Ann Hickman & William Boggs Etc., Etc. So......Albert Lee Smith had a sister Elsie, who married Robert Boggs. I remember asking my mother if he was related, and she said she didn't think so. Well, today I got his death certificate & his parents were Eli Boggs and Lula Stayers. I type Eli Boggs into my genealogy program & have 6 or 7 Eli's, but the very first one was Eli Mansfield Boggs who married Lulu Zetta Sayers!!! That line is: James (Charles) Boggs & Margaret Jane Sharp Ezekiel Boggs & Margaret Boggs Ezekiel Boggs, Jr. & Sarah Margaret McCarthy Eli Mansfield Boggs & Lulu Zetta Sayers/Stayers Now for the quandry....my gr uncle Robert Boggs was born 4 July 1891 in Moville, Iowa. Eli & Lulu show a son born that date....named Reuben!!!!! No Robert!! Now this could be an error from the Boggs Family by Al & Martha Boggs Rhods. Does anyone know more about this line? Kathy Hughes
