    2. Edward, A lot of farmers wore straw hats to keep the sun from burning them up. I am sure you have heard the term "redneck", that is the origination of the term redneck. Hats were ubiquitous years ago, and especially in the east the social rule of wearing felt hats in the winter and starw hats between Memorial Day and Labor Day was pretty strictly observed as a social convention. Are you sure that your young memory hasn't converted that big straw Panama into an imaginary cowboy hat? -- Bob Birchard [email protected] http://www.mdle.com/ClassicFilms/Guest/birchard.htm

    2. Hello My dad was a coal miner and he wore a hat from his teen age years until he died in 74. A majority of the miners did were hats. Not just for the keeping the sun off. My dad felt that he wasn't fully dressed without his hat. I would say that farmers also wore hats to shade the sun in the hot weather. Dads hat was worn year round and not just on holidays or special occasions. Elva

    3. Pam: This one was hard for me to believe. I called Ray Williams the other night to talk about the Headstone project. Have I told you about Ray??? I was telling him about you uncle but did not tell him a name. I only told him that he was from Washington and wanted to come to the reunion and that he was a grandson of Jim Goins. Ray said "oh yes, one of Goins girls married a Ferguson and moved out west someplace" This man has a mind that won't stop when it comes to the history of Cains Creek and the Boggs family. Thought you would be interested in this tidbit. All of Rays knowledge is stored in his head. I try to pump him everytime I see him for when he is gone that knowledge will die with him. Cousin Dave Church Researching: Church/Boggs/Blevins/Kidd/Lovely Please consider a donation to the Hugh and Hannah Boggs Headstone fund. Thanks

    3. I am seeking information on the descendants of California pioneer Lilburn W. Boggs (b. ca. 1799 in Kentucky) He Married Panthea Grant Boone (2nd wife) and had 8 children from his two marriages, all born in Missouri: William M. Boggs, b. ca 1826 Albert G. Boggs, b. ca. 1830 John Boggs, b. ca. 1832 Theodore Boggs, b. ca. 1833 Minerva Boggs, b. ca. 1835 George W. Boggs, b. ca 1838 Sophia Boggs, b. ca. 1840 Joseph Oliver Boggs, b. ca. 1844 I am especially interested in locating information on the descendants of George W. Boggs, who married Alabama McMeans on October 17, 1865 in Sonoma, California. Their 5 children all born in California, were: Jessie Boggs, b. ca. 1866 Francis (Frank) W. Boggs, b. ca. 1870 Howard B. Boggs, b. ca. 1873 Florence Boggs, b. ca. 1875 Alexander Boggs, b. ca. 1878 I believe Florence Boggs never married. Francis W. Boggs was married ca. 1895 to Lillian Nelson (maiden name), an actress who was known professionally as May Hosmer [she may have been previously married to an actor with the surname of Hosmer]. Francis and Lillian had one son, Edwin Boggs, b. ca.. 1897 in California. Does anyone on the mail list have any information regarding possible descendants of Edwin Boggs, or descendants of the siblings of his father, Francis W. Boggs? Any help would be greatly appreciated. -- Bob Birchard [email protected] http://www.mdle.com/ClassicFilms/Guest/birchard.htm
