    3. --WebTV-Mail-1581812864-1245 Content-Type: Text/Plain; Charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7Bit People keep forgetting that NOT having a surname listed in melungeon lists does not disqualify the possibility of melungeon ancestry. It takes a lot of facts, not just a name or lack thereof Ineffably, Edward G. Boggs --WebTV-Mail-1581812864-1245 Content-Disposition: Inline Content-Type: Message/RFC822 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7Bit X-WebTV-Signature: 1 ETAtAhQtmmw8JVJ8g7dRC3zC88h+SK2NoQIVAJEU+tqglb5BAQy74eGF+NKV24ZF From: [email protected] (Edward Boggs) Date: Mon, 29 Mar 1999 18:57:46 -0500 (EST) To: [email protected] Subject: melungeon Message-ID: <[email protected]> Content-Disposition: Inline Content-Type: Text/Plain; Charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7Bit MIME-Version: 1.0 (WebTV) I am very familiar with the subject of the Melungeons and wondering if my grandfather on my mother's side might not have melungeon ancestry. We traced the line back to Va. and know that it probably goes to Germany and Switzerland because they were of the Brethern Church. My mother says that her father was olive skinned, had smooth black hair. He was treated for T.B. Perhaps it was T.B. or possibly sarcodosis. I know one of our Great Rudy's had married a Sallie Mcguire in Virginia. But I don't know of any LISTED melungeon name in this line....so far. But a surname, like anything is not conclusive. I contracted a lung condition when I was twelve, but they say it probably was caused from having pneumonia as a child. Bronchiactisis. I believe that's correct. I wonder if there is a possible tie . Well, our Boggs side were told we're Black Dutch and Cherokee, so I can see the tie there, from Wise and Lee Counties and Harlan, Ky. *I know she is probably busy, but does anyone know how to contact Rhonda Robertson to get answers on the Boggs line. I e-mailed her thrice and never got a reply. I realize she is writing a book with the boggs included. patiently, Edward G. Boggs --WebTV-Mail-1581812864-1245--

    3. I also would like to repost my Boggs line. Is there any one researching this line from Ezekiel Boggs (1734) down? It seems like there a plenty of us who have James (1667) & Francis (1702). Most seem to branch off from there. I haven't come across anyone coming down through the same line from Ezekiel and Alexander on down that I do. Anyone out there on my immediate branch? 3. Does anyone have this BOGGS family in their lineage? Calvin Luther BOGGS (or perhaps Luther Calvin) born June 1857 in Sharon, Noble Co., Ohio and died same place in 1923. md. 9/15/1874 to Ida MOORE (1858-1878) md. 11/5/1878 to Nancy (Nan) Kirk (1862-1935) 11/5/1878 Children listed with Nancy Kirk: Alma Boggs 1878 Fred L. Boggs May 1881 John Wesley Boggs June 30, 1884 Albert Boggs August 1886 I am inclined to believe that Alma Boggs may have been Ida Moore's child and perhaps Ida died in child birth given the dates of Calvin Luther's marriage to Nancy Kirk. 1. [BOGGS-L] BOGGS
    2. Edward Boggs
    3. This info may be of interest to some. From the Book "INDIAN BLOOD II" subtitled : further adventures in finding your native American ancestors. Author is Richard Pangburn, Published by Butler Books, Louisville Ky. 1996 BOGGS, BOGS, BAUGS, BOGGAS ect. A Cherokee name. John Boggs was a trader among the cherokees and he served as an emissary during border conflicts. Boggs informed Gov. William Blunt in 1792 of the impending attack of the Creeks (with John Watts and a war party of Cherokees) against the encroaching white settlement. "Bogs (sic) is a half breed, well- known to many white people, and by all parties viewed as a man of veracity." See COVSP, vol. 6 pps. 115, 116 In 1793 John Boggs ran the ferry for the prominent cherokee, Turtle-at-home, villiage chief at the Running Water Town. Boggs fell in love with his daughter, Tsi-Yah-Ney-Nah. Perhaps due to them, the Boggs surname is now common in mainstream Americans who have the Cherokee princess tradition. See Holmes, pp. 62-63 Listed on the 1835 Cherokee Census was the household of Robert Boggs, living in Creek Path, Alabama, and consisting of one half-breed and eight mixed Catawbas. The Boggas household of six Cherokees living on Lookout Creek in Georgia included one quarterblood. Listed on the 1835 Cherokee Census of Tennessee was the large family of John Boggs consisting of fourteen Cherokees. Their farm was on Candy's Creek in McMinn County. See Tyner, pp. 6, 100, 171. Lucinda Boggs who married Azzel Blevins from Carter county, Ky. was traditionally a Cherokee, as was her husband. I recommend this as a good source of info to anyone who is interested in Indian ancestry. Both volumes hold a lot of valuable information, and may be able to help in genealogy research. a lot of good history as well as dates and places are in this two volume set. ( A lot of surnames ) Ineffably, Edward G. Boggs

    3. Dear Boggs Family, I am searching for my half-siblings, Laurance Knight BOGGS Jr. (Red), Juanita BOGGS RATZELL(?), L. Raymond BOGGS. According to our grandmother's (Clara FINKLE BOGGS) obituary in January, 1958 Laurance was living in Lawrence, KS, Juanita and L. Raymond in Miami, FL. Laurance had a daughter, Virginia (Ginger) and Juanita had a daughter, Nina Lee(b. 1949, between March and May). My grandmother listed a third great grandchild, but no name is known. I was not listed because, she and my father were estranged for many years before her death. I have a box of pictures which belonged to our grandmother which includes pictures of her, our dad, and my three half-siblings. I would like to share some of these family heirlooms with my family. I would also like to establish contact with any member of the family who still survives. Our father died in 1959, in Sulphur, near Lake Charles, LA of pancreatic cancer. My mother tried to get a message to you through the millenary shop in Lawrence, KS, but it was REFUSED. I don't care what may have happened in the past, but I do want to know my family before there is no one left to know. If any of my siblings are alive, they are near 70 years old. I hope I can perhaps help heal the hurts that existed so many years ago. Thank you, Becky BOGGS VINCENT Rebecca (Becky) B.
