I have read with MUCH interest the conversations today between Stephanie and Scott. I have a couple of questions; 1. William F. Boggs....I had this line only down to James Clendenin, so was thrilled to see this continuation. Could you give me the details on William M6, so I can fill in the blanks? 2. This is the first mention I have seen ANYWHERE that ANY of the descendents of Hugh are known. I would LOVE to get that info.... Kathy Hughes .... John Livingston (I think), James, Francis, James Charles, John, William, Juliet, Albert Smith, Elizabeth Smith Roberts, Me.... [email protected]

Is anyone familiar with CARTER families from Lee County Va. and surrounding areas Wa-Do E. Boggs
By the way, while I was up in Ohio last summer, I stopped in Pickaway Co on my way back from WV and took some pictures of the Boggs Monument, erected by John Boggs Jr. for his father and grandfather. If you like I could scan them. Stephanie Scott Perry wrote: > Stephanie: > I have Captain John Boggs (1740-1827) marrying JANE Irwin. Hi Scott, I think this is Capt, John Boggs as well. From what I know he is possibly in the Hugh Livingston/Boggs who was a supposed brother to my John Livingston/Boggs line. I was looking over what little information I have on Hugh's line and have that Jane Irwin was the daughter of James and Jean Irwin. and they were married abt 1762. so that falls before the date of the will. I also have Capt. John's b. date as 3/3/1738/39. .is this what you have? I only have about four pages of line on this family, so I'm not sure how accurate the information is. Hope this helps some though. Stephanie Scott Perry wrote: > Stephanie: > I have Captain John Boggs (1740-1827) marrying JANE Irwin. Seeking information on Justus Dunkle Boggs, born January 17, 1846 in Landisville, Lancaster County, PA. I first found him in the 1850 Census living with John Dunkle of Manheim Township. The marriage liscense for his second marriage, shows the names Mathew and Maria as being his parents. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Does anyone know who this John Boggs is? BOGGS, JOHN WILLIAM STEEL, of Paxtang, son of David Steel. d. August, 1769, leaving children: i. John, m. Margaret McClure, and had William. ii. Samuel. iii. Agnes, m. John Boggs, and had William. iv. Elizabeth, m. Thomas McNutt, and had William. v. Thomas. vi. David, m. Katharine _____. vii. Mary. viii. Jean. ix. William. Or this one? I. James Irwin, of then Peters township, Cumberland, now in Franklin county, made his will May 26, 1776; it was probated April 28, 1778. In it, he mentions his wife Jean, and children, as follows. We give them in the order in which they are mentioned: i. Joseph. ii. James. iii. Archibald; m. Jean McDowell. iv. Elizabeth: was twice married; first, to William McConnell; secondly, Aaron Torrence v. Mary; m. William Nesbitt vi. John, m. Martha Maclay. vii. Jean, m. John Boggs. Viii. Lydia, m. [Moses] Porter, and had Phineas and Jean. ix. Margaret, m. Thomas Patton. x. Martha, m. [George] Paull. The executors of the estate were son James Irwin and son-in-law William Nesbitt. The foregoing is entirely different from that given by Mr. Keith, who gives the name of the head of the family as Archibald instead of james. James Irwin, son of Archibald, but was not born in York county, but in Peters township, on the old farm, nearest the present Mercersburg. Thanks, Stephanie
Hi Everyone, Not sure who's line this is, but figured I'd throw it out there and hopefully it will help someone. Stephanie Next: MEMBERS OF DONEGAL CHURCH IN 1776. V. 26. Mrs. Boggs, X Com. Andrew Boggs, X Com. Alex. Boggs. Mary Boggs, Com. Andrew Boggs. John Wilson, Com. This family was one of the most prominent in the county. The Mrs. Boggs, was Ann B., the widow of Andrew Boggs, who purchased two hundred and fifty acres of land along the river and adjoining the Logan tract on northwest of where Bainbridge now is, about the year 1730. The patent for the land was taken out a few years later. Andrew Boggs died in April, 1765, and left wife Ann and children as follows: i. John; married a daughter of Dr. James Johnson, a prominent officer in the Revolutionary War. John removed to Cumberland county, afterwards Franklin county. He engaged in the Indian trade, was sheriff of Cumberland and also of Franklin. He was a major in the Revolutionary War. About the year 1792 he removed with his brother-in-law, COl. James Dunlop, from Franklin to Centre county, and laid out the town of Beelefonte, where they built one or two furnaces. Major Boggs died in a year or two and was the first person buried in the cemtery at Bellefonte. His descendants are widely scattered and connected with some of the most prominent families in Pennsylvania and Maryland.
I believe I have found my first tie to the Melungeons in our Boggs line! Laura H. Parsons was married to my g-grandfather, Levi who was born in 1873. She was born in Lee County, Va. in 1871. Laura's father was David Perry Parsons and her mother was Annie or Amy CARTER. E. Boggs
Hi Harvey: I will offer a few comments on your posting: I don't think anyone can say for sure that the father of James Boggs, the immigrant, was named William. Margaret died in 1835, and to my knowledge we have no death date for Jane, so that 1835 is probably Margaret's. Fanncis Boggs died 22 Jan 1889 Lucinda was born in July, rather than June. Alexander married Sarah Kline Also you have left out Mary who was born 17 May 1811 and married Thomas McCowan. I hope there is something here that will help. Al Rhods
