I found this while searching the net for web sites about BOGGS. I copied a part of the info below. This Boggs family is from Georgia. If you are interested in the rest of the article, go to http://pages.prodigy.com/stevenbutts/titantic.htm ____________________ Many of you have asked about Archibald Butt who died when the Titantic sank. He also was military aid to President Teddy Roosevelt and President Taft. This interest, along with my daughter Laura's fascination with the Titantic, has inspired this page. ARCHIBALD WILLINGHAM BUTT Archibald Willingham Butt was the son of Joshua Butt and Pamella Boggs. Joshua W. Butt was born in Georgia 1828. He was the head of a family on the 1850 Census in Division 3, Augusta, Richmond Co, Georgia. Joshua was listed as the head of a family on the 1860 Census in 4th Ward, Augusta, Richmond Co, Georgia. He married Pamella R. Boggs in St, Paul's Episcopal Church, Augusta, Georgia, 8 Sep 1858. Pamella was born in Georgia 1834. Pamella was the daughter of Archibald Boggs and Mary A. Unknown. I have German-Swiss on my mothers side, so I don't have anything against being part . but I believe part of their belief is that being German is being stronger than something else. ( Just trying to figure them out ) My father is a prideful, stubborn man. (I'm 45, so i'm not just a nai've kid .)
I don't understand why my father and one of my cousins keep insisting that BOGGS is german and that our ancestor came from Germany. I don't argue with them. They may have been told this to cover the Melungeon in our line, and the Cherokee, which probably came about with intermarriage into the Scot/Irish line of Boggs. They are from Lee and Wise Co's. I also thought of the possibility that someone may have seen a immigration sheet, and misinterpreted the listing GR B I as Germany rather than Great British Isles. It's just frustrating to deal with such stubborness, but some people I guess are set in their ways, and refuse to question and check into it themselves, we just have to accept that and go on. thanxx guys for listening to my rambling. There are even some family histories for many of these names. An example is below of Boggs Cherokee. BOGGS, BOGS, BAUGS, BOGGAS, etc... A cherokee name. John Boggs was a trader among the Cherokee and he served as an emissary during border conflicts. Boggs informed Governor William Blunt in 1792 of the impending attack of the Creeks (with John Watts and a war party of cherokees) against the encroaching white settlements. "Bogs (sic) is a half breed, well known to many white people, and by all parties viewed as a man of veracity." See COVSP. vol 6 pp. 115-116 In 1793, John Boggs ran the ferry for the prominent Cherokee, Turtle-at-home, villiage chief at the Running Water Town. Boggs fell in love with his daughter, Tsi-yah-ney-naw. Perhaps due to them, the Boggs surname is now common in mainstream Americans who have the cherokee princess tradition. See Holmes, pp. 62-63. Listed on the 1835 Cherokee Census was the household of Robert Boggs, living in Creek Path, Alabama, and consisting of one halfbreed and eight mixed Catawbas. The Boggas household of six Cherokees living on Lookout Creek in Georgia included one quarterblood. Listed on the 1835 Cherokee Census of Tennessee was the large family of John Boggs consisting of fourteen Cherokees. Their farm was on Candy's Creek in McMinn County. see Tyner, pp. 6, 100, 171. Lucinda Boggs who married Azzel Blevins from carter county, kentucky was traditionally a Cherokee, as was her husband. "Indian Blood" is a two volume set by Richard Pangburn. Published by Butler Books in Louisville Kentucky in 1996. ISBN # 1-884532-05-5 Hope this info helps someone. Edw. Boggs --WebTV-Mail-652756758-5522--
Because of his historical notoriety there must be several on the news list that have delved into the genalogy of Lilburn W. Boggs, and since there are a few new people on the group I thought I'd renew my questions regarding Lilburn W. and his descendants. First, what was his middle name? Early records all indicate that the "W" stands for Wycliff or Wycliffe, but the California State Library (he was a California pioneer after leaving Missouri) lists his name through several sources as Lilburn Williams Boggs. Does anybody out there know which is correct? Next: Are any of you descendants of Lilburn W. Boggs? I am trying to track down information about Francis W. Boggs (b. 1870, probably in Newman, Stanislaus County, California; d. October 27, 1911, Los Angeles, California), he was a grandson of Lilburn W. Boggs. Francis W. Boggs was married ca. 1895 to Lillian H. Boggs and they had a son, Edwin Boggs, born ca. 1897 in California. Both parents were actors. Francis and Lillian may have been divorced ca. 1901-1902. Lillian lists herself as a "widow" in the 1910 census, although Francis was still very much alive at the time. He traveled to Chicago ca. 1902-1903 and worked with the May Hosmer Stock Company. At the time of his death, May Hosmer was listed as his widow. Hosmer was either a stage name or a previous marriage name, because her father was actor James E. Nelson. Any information on Lilburn, his descendants, and Francis W. in particular would be greatly appreciated -- Bob Birchard [email protected] http://www.mdle.com/ClassicFilms/Guest/birchard.htm

I went to the First Ladies site posted by Allyn Campbell but it doesn't give any info except Lucy's parents names. I live about 18 miles from Fremont,OH. where the Hayes Presidential Center is located. I have been told that the Center has a very good genealogical department covering the northwest Ohio area. Since I don't have NW.OH. ancestors I've never bothered to check it out. I'm sure they also have a more extensive family history for Lucy. I love touring the house so would welcome an excuse to do it again. If anyone is interested in a connection to the Hayes family I will be happy to do a look up at the Center. Marilyn
Just an update on our progress in replacing the Headstone for Hugh Boggs and Hannah Blevins Boggs. I will go to Lawrence Co. Ky. this coming Monday to meet Ray Williams and look at headstones. We need to get some idea of what is out there in a price range we can afford. Will not order anything until July 1, 1999. I want to thank all of the Boggs and Blivins families who have made a donation to this fund and encourage others of you to make a donation if you had intended to do so. If anyone needs more information about this undertaking please write to me at, [email protected] and I will fill you in. We are not there yet so lets all try to help out. It is planned to have the dedication of this headstone at the Boggs reunion on Cains Creek in September. Thanks to you all. Cousin Dave Church Researching: Church/Boggs/Blevins/Kidd/Lovely Please consider a donation to the Hugh and Hannah Boggs Headstone fund. Thanks
Thanks John, and welcome to the List!
The connection is a cousin, Lemonade Lucy, the wife of Rutherford B. Hayes. Sorry, don't remember how the connection works but think it's through her mother, Maria Cook. She was called Lemonade Lucy because she was a teetotaler and only served lemonade in the White House R. Scott Perry

Jess...responding to your request for help on the Charles Boggs/Ann Scobee line. don't get your hopes up, I know nothing! However, In the last couple of days I have seen 2 references to a William between John Livingston Boggs (you said James Livingston) and James, the immigrant. Al Rhods responded that it was not proven that William was James' father. Do you have Proof!!??? I never heard of him before 2 days ago. Of course, there's no proof of John Livingston either, but would like to fit William in if he belongs...thanks! Kathy Hughes [email protected]
Jess, I am new to this geneology thing. I have a request for you. In your message below, your say that you have documented most of the information. Thanks for the offer, but I had a nephew stop and take pictures six ways from sideways of that monument and the landscape round about a few years ago. You may have missed stuff I posted a few weeks back about the Logan Elm and some other stories related to this Boggs branch. I appreciate your info about the Irwins--possibly pushes my ggggrandparents list back one notch. I have a fair amount of history related to the Capt. John Boggs line.
