To Edwin Boggs, In all likelihood, your Levi Boggs was actually born in Wise County. Until the late 1800's, Lee County incorporated all the area which is now Wise County. A group of citizens, some of whom were Boggges, petitioned the General Assembly for separation into their own county with the county seat to be in Wise because of the distance from where they lived near the Virginia-Kentucky border many miles north of Jonesville which was the county seat of Lee County. You should look up The History of Wise County by L. F. Addington. It can give you more about the establishment of Wise County. Found an entry in The Boggs Newsletter, Vol V, No 4, Dec 1981, Alice C. Grady, Ed., page 122: Subject: AL. Marriages: Chambers Co, Andrew I. & Eady Turley, 20 July 1843. Possibly the middle initial (I) could be a transcription error. It may have been a (J) for your Andrew Jackson Boggs. Turley may have KY connections. There is considerable Boggs/Noland Turley genealogical records by Mrs (Jerre B.) Anna Turley Noland, deceased, located at the EASTERN KY, LIBRARY, at Richmond, KY. She was a Boggs Newsletter contributor and started her genealogy research back in 1922. I don't know about any web site to enter this library's records. If some one has it, I would like an address. I found this by accident & not design.
Just thought I'd put my listing for Levi Boggs out there again. Reportedly, my g-grandfather was born in Lee County Va. in 1873 and died in 1956. I thought of the possibility that he was born in Wise county instead. I've seen a lot of listings for Levi out there but none that seem to match mine. ( The John Boggs? that's another subject entirely in itself!) Edward G. Boggs

I am trying to find information on a Jim Boggs, reportedly from Cairo IL. Had a brother William, daughters Alda Boggs Denton, Annie and Mertle (sp), had 2 sons named Percy O'Riley and William Loy. Lived around Red Bay, AL, moved to Tishomongo, MS and then back to AL. Cannot confirm any of the info above, just family recollections. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Dear Gary, I am researching an entirely different Boggs line, but our people both end up in Los Angeles in the early part of the century so I am writing to ask if in your searches you have come across anything on any of the following: Francis W. Boggs, b. 1870 probably in Newman, Stanislaus County, California; d. October 27, 1911 in Los Angeles Lillian H. Boggs, wife of Francis W. Boggs Edwin Boggs, b. ca. 1897 in California, son of Francis W. and Lillian H. I am trying to locate descendants of Francis W. Boggs or descendants of his siblings: Jessie Boggs, b. ca. 1866 in California Howard B. Boggs, b. ca 1873 in California Florence Boggs, b. ca. 1875 in California (apparently never married) and Alexander Boggs, b. ca. 1878 in California. If by any chance you have come across anything in your research that might touch on mine I'd appreciate any help you might offer. -- Bob Birchard [email protected] http://www.mdle.com/ClassicFilms/Guest/birchard.htm cliftongeo wrote: > Hello Everyone. Hello Everyone. New on the list. I have had great difficulty with a seemingly simple problem. Here are my ancestors, who I hope are connected to someone out there! ABNER BOGGS married Flora A. POINDEXTER in Terre Haute, IN, in 1870. He was probably in his early 20's, she 16 or 17. Flora was born in Shelby or Macoupin County, IL, so assume Boggs from same area. Boggs had a son Clifford by an earlier marriage. CLIFFORD BOGGS had a daughter, MYRTLE, and both may have ended up in the Los Angeles area about 1900-1920. Boggs and Flora had sons OSCAR and BARNEY. I have not been able to track them, or ABNER, who was widowed when Flora died in 1882, I have no info on where she died, so have not been able to get a lead on the family. They are not in the 1880 IN census. Boggs most likely married for a third time. I would appreciate any leads on this Boggs family. Gary Clifton California

Does anyone have a book called Boston Transcript 1600-1800. I have been trying to locate a copy. No luck so far. I am looking for info on Thomas Boggs and Catherine Van Buskirik. They where born in the early 1700's and married mid 1700's. If someone has a copy of the book or knows where I can get one it would be a great help. Thanks.....Karen

Sandy, > >There is an author who lives in New Orleans who is researching the GA line >of the Boggs family. He just published a book on Huey P. Long. I can't >remember his name right now, but will look it up and send it to you. > >I think it is for a new book he is working on. > ATTENTION BOGGS FAMILY The researcher mentioned above is working on the Boggs family. I think those of you researching the Georgia line may well have more than he does. I met him with a friend of mine while purchasing her book for the library in Illinois where my grandmother, Clara Drusilla FINKLE BOGGS, was librarian for almost 30 years. He was promoting his new book on Huey Long at the same booth. He was very interested in my connecting with little other than my father's place of birth, date, and the name of the town where I thought he grew up. When I had her sign her book in memory of my grandmother, his ears picked up, and told me he was also working on the Boggs family of Mississippi and Georgia. I'm not positive, but it may be in relation to a book on Hale Boggs or his related family. I will post his address when it becomes available. I believe most of you have more information than he does. He is supposed to contact me soon. But I haven't heard from him since the conference a month ago. Later, Becky Rebecca (Becky) B. I remember also in seeing a book at the library on heraldry and there were about 3 or four different crests shown for Boggs. The most common was I believe, 3 crescents and a sail. E. Boggs ` some of them are english Boggs, I believe.
Hello Becky Please send me a copy of the name of the book or author as I am from Boggs of Georgia Starting with JOhn D. Boggs b. 1812 d. 1881 Atlanta They were in Jackson for a slight time . Harsea
Becky, Thank you so much for telling me!!! We have our Jackson Co., GA. Boggs only back to the early 1800's and cannot seem to trace them back any further. If you can find his name and address, please send it to my privately as I would be more interested in talking to him and seeing if he knows of my line.
