    3. Danielle and Audrey, I also would be interested to know if any responses are received to your queries as I have never seen any in the months I have belonged to this list. There seems to be a "conspiracy of silence" on any aspect of this war. I searched the library here in Parksville Canada for books on the subject and could find none. I know there were two Boer Wars but am uncertain when the 1st one was. I read the book "The Power of One" (fiction) which is the effect of the war on a 4 year old English boy living in S.Africa after the war.He was sent to a boarding school with mostly Dutch S.Africans. Extremely well written but of course not much of the politics that led to the war. I believe there were many atrocities committed and very poor leadership of the British. Anyone care to correct me on these impressions and tell us where to find out more I would really like to hear from you. My great grandfather James NOTLEY of Gosport Hants fought in the 1899 - 1901 and was missing from 1901 census.
