Hello everyone, Wondered if someone could help. On the Scottish marriage cert. of my g-grandfather his occupation is given as - Bugler, 71st Regiment of Foot (Staff). I would like to know what 'staff' means in this case. Many thanks, Carole Noden

Many thanks for your reply. I'm afraid that it wouldn't be Staffordshire the county but is staff as in 'member of staff'. Have since found out that it may mean he was attached to the headquarters of the HLI and not out on active service.
