    3. Hi, A different request perhaps but I am looking for more information on my grandfather MARTINUS DIEDERICK DE BEER who was a boer POW and who spent time in India. The information below is all I can get from the South African authorities - would there be any further records or information from the British records. "MD de beer was one of the unfortunate POWs who spent a considerable time on board ship. They were on their way to Ceylon when the authorities discovered someone with bubonic plague on board ship. After spending sometime in Durban harbour in quarantine they were sent back to Cape Town to spend some more time there. The governor of Ceylon felt that the camps on the islands were overflowing thus they were sent to India. NO16847 Name DE BEER, DIEDERICK MARTINUS Age 33 Address DAMPLAATS HEILBRON Fieldcornetcy VECHTKOP Captured at HOPETOWN 1901/02/23 Sent to Ahmednagar INDIA on board the HAWARDEN Castle Most of these POWs reurned at the end of 1902 beginning of 1903 as the monsoons rains had an influence on the ships travelling to and from India." I would appreciate any help - there is an interesting story about my grandfather and an English soldier who met in a battle - I will get my facts straight and send more info later. Is there a similar site to this that would deal with WW1 & WW2 - my other Grandfather and my uncle served in the RFC and the SAAF . Thanks and Regards, David V.
