    3. I have a relative, Frederick William SHEPPARD (b. 1870, Market Lavington, Wilts) who married Ethel Alice PINCHIN (b.1872, Chippenham, Wilts) in Market Lavington in Nov 1897. In the 1901 census Ethel is a widow (with no children), visiting the HAYWARD family at Jennings Street, Swindon, Wilts. I have scoured the GRO index for Frederick's death between his marriage and the 1901 census, but cannot find it. I was wondering if he fought and was killed in the Boer War. He had a younger brother William (b. Nov 1883, Market Lavington, Wilts) who was in the Coldstream Guards, enlisting in Jan 1901, service number 4037. William had medals: South African War Medal 1902, with clasp for Cape Colony South Africa 1902. William also gained medals in WW2. Please does anyone have information that might show that Frederick was indeed in Africa? Regards Graham
