I really do not have that much information to go on, so I am not expecting anyone to help me find my grandfather, just maybe give me a little idea on how I can go about finding the information necessary that might lead me in the right direction. My grandfather was Samuel Jacob Rosen. According to "family lore" he served as a bicycle or motorcycle messenger for the British in the Boer War in South Africa. Evidently there was once a photo of him on his bike during war time, but that is long since gone I am afraid. I have no idea of the regiment or unit. I do know that he was a surviver of the war. He was born circa 1886 supposedly in Russia and sent to live in England at a very young age (although some say he claims he was born in England, while others claim he was born in Russia). His mother was Mary Rosen and he had 4 siblings, Jennie Rosen, Anna Rosen, Philip Rosen and David Rosen. No father that I am aware of. Lore is that he lived close to London, but again I have no idea WHERE Is it possible for me to actually find any information on my grandfather in reference to the war or am I just traveling down one of those long dirt roads that leads to nowhere (smile)? I have no idea if he received any metals, I do know he arrived in the United States somewhere around 1906. Thank you for any help you might be able to offer Helene Rose-Carson hcarson@frontiernet.net
