Hello to everyone I'm a new list member, and would like to post a plea for help. William Henry Cousins was my ggrandfather on my mothers side. He married in 1896, and his marriage certificate stated he was a soldier of "Guildford Bty Dover". I have since found that this was not a Unit, but a concrete emplacement, part of Dovers defences. I also found that the only Units that fit the time frame stationed in Dover were 10 & 20 Coy, Eastern Div Garrison Artillery. He is totally missing from the 1901 census, which I took to mean he or his Unit had been posted overseas. His wife was a widow when she remarried in 1915, and was attributed with saying that he was decorated for bravery in South Africa, and that his medal was on display in a museum somewhere. This has been passed down the family, but I have no proof of what medal he was awarded, or if he died in SA. In fact I have no proof he was ever in the Boer War. Has anyone any info on him? Even the award of the QSA would prove he was there. I wou! ld be very grateful for anything at all. Keith Whitaker
