Hi All,I,m searching for my GGgrandfather-George Brockbank. He was Private 6503 in the 1st battalion. This is all I know of his record. He was born in Shepherds Gate,Crook,Westmorland in 1851-so would of been around 48-52 at time of Boer War.He was alive in 1898 and living PROBABLY in Ambleside,Westmorland. His daughter married late in 1898 in Dalton-in-Furness,Lancashire,he is alive & profession given as Carter.By 1901,he has disappeared off electoral rolls, his wife appears as a widow in Dalton-in-Furness,Lancashire and I cannot find his death anywhere in the British Isles. His family emigrated to South Africa soon after end of Boer War to same areas of conflict, but his wife stayed and remarried.I do not know if he died or survived or if she just put down on census she was widowed.Anyone any info? This would be much appreciated as I cannot take family history any further. Many thanks,Paul.
