    3. Greetings from New Zealand - I have just joined the list. I have just discovered that an ancestor (George HARRIMAN) from Leicester served in the British army in the Boer War. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to find out what regiment he was in - and if he survived. Many thanks Lindsay Eaton Wellington, New Zealand

    3. Hi Lindsay & List: Re George Harriman, you should be able to see whether he survived by looking in one of the lists of deaths for his name. Eg (held in National Library, Wellington in Family History section): The English GRO (General Registry Office) Overseas or "ancillary" death registration fiches ONS No. F533-F539, called: "Natal and South African Field Force Deaths 1899-1902 (Regular and Irregular Forces)". If he survived, I doubt if there is any easy way of finding out what regiment he served in. The Medal Rolls are arranged by Regiment/Unit, and generally have just Surname & Initial(s).
