    1. [BOER-WAR] Thomas Byrne
    2. My great uncle, Thomas Byrne, served in the Boer War. He was at Camp Curragh in the 1890's. I have a photo of him in his uniform. He had come to America in 1871 with his family when he was 12. He is listed on the 1880 census living with his parents in Council Bluffs, Iowa. His age was 22 and I believe he was a stone cutter. I am quite sure that he left for Ireland sometime between 1880 and 1885. I also believe he joined the military when he got back to Ireland. Any suggestions as to how I can find him. There was a letter (I believe in 1899) that he had left for S. Africa for the Boer War and it was from a B. Byrne. I know nothing more about him except that he wrote to my grandmother often. Of course, those letters are long gone. I have tried to get the records but there are so many Thomas Byrne that so far only the wrong records show up. Is there a way of searching through the site? He was born October of 1858, baptized October 7, 1858 in Myshall, Co. Carlow, Ireland. Thanks for sticking with this and reading it all. :) Coral Allbee, California USA
