He was presumably wounded in WW1 but,unlike the Boer War, the available WW1 references show only those casualties who died and not those who were wounded as well. His attestation and service papers may be at the National Archives (formerly the PRO) at Kew (assuming he was in a British unit in WW1) but only 30% of WW1 soldiers' records survive.
