Colin, Oh yes.. the soldiers papers are indexed by surname in the period of discharge. As your man was in the Boer War it is probable he was discharged between 1900 and 1913, which would be this file.. WO 97/5498 Melican - Melody If he isn't there.. check WW1 files as a lot of Boer War men served in a Home capacity in WW1 or tried to enlist but were rejected.. in either case the papers ended up in the WW1 period files.
