    3. Hi All, On a recent visit to some family graves at East Cemetery in East London, South Africa, some nearby Military Type War Graves caught my eye. Two (2) of them very old type Headstones reading :- Pte Thomas Thorne, 4 Battn The P.A. Somerset L.I. 5 October 1900, Age 41 Pte Victor Edward Bagnell, 13 August 1900, Age 18 years 5 months. There are a further eight (8) more modern WW2 type Headstones reading :- Pte Bradley J. 4 Cheshire, 25 December 1900 32894 Pte Oettinger / Dettinger M. South African Light Horse, 18 July 1901 968 Pte Kelly J. 1 Connaught Rangers, 4 May 1900 815 Pte Lawless P. 1 Connaught Rangers, 8 May 1900 3180 Pte Burns T. 1Derby (and Notts) 24 March 1900 1316 Pte Mc Clone G. 3 Durham L.I. 23 April 1900 2968 Pte Mc Hugh W. 3 Durham L.I. 9 March 1900 13368 Bomb Ryan W. R.G.A. 22 February 1900 Could these be Boer War Graves ? Did any battles / fighting take place close to East London ? I have Digital Photos of all the above Headstones, if anyone is Researching any of the above names I will gladly send photos off-list. Brian Barrett.
