Looking for any information concerning my grandfather William Hodges, who I believe served in South Africa in 1899/1900 in 2nd Battalion Coldstream Guards. He was invalided with 'Blackwater fever' and returned to England (date uncertain) but was present for the 1901 census when he was recorded as a 'private orderly' at Golders Hill 'Hospital', Hendon. He would have been circa 27 in 1900 and may have been a warrant officer at some point in his career as I possess a regimental cane reputed to have been his! I have tried the Coldstream Guards archive, but without his serial number they were unable to help. Any information gratefully received, Bryan Hodges
