I have him located as follows: Confirmed Service from marriage certificate and birth certificates of his children. On Marriage: Jan 28 1893, No 8039 Sergeant in Rifle Brigade based at Winchester.( batallion unspecified.) On birth of Edwin George: March 24 1894, No 8039 Sergeant in 2nd Bn Rifle Brigade Winchester On birth of Katherine Isabel 11 Nov 1895, No 8039 Sergeant in 2nd Bn Rifle Brigade Hong Kong On birth of Charles Walter 8 May 1897, No 8039 Sergeant in 2nd Bn Rifle Brigade Aldershot 1901 Census: Edwin Eastman aged 32 at Woolwich. RG13/568 refers. Color Sergeant of 5th Rifle Brigade, >From death certificate Died 1918 serving with 1st rifle brigade Folkestone as a Sergeant Major. can anyone advise me if the 2nd Rifle Brigade went to the Boer War? Was the 5th Rifle Brigade batallion a recruiting unit, thus perhaps my grandfather missed the war completely? many thanks Peter Eastman
