Thank you for the info David. The medal details are really helpful. I have come across Smith but he seems to have come from Penistone and I'm fairly sure there are ho links. I am going on a FHS trip to Kew at the wnd of September so will look at WO 128 andalso try my luck with the burnt documents. He joined the Lancashire Fusilier in Sept 1914 and was blown up by a mune 26 April 1916. Many thanks for your help, Robin
Robin - You may alreadfy have this information but I can add that in WW1 he was number 9227 in the 11th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers and was born in and enlisted at Leeds.
