I don't know anything of the Boatwrights you are looking for. But, I do think you are right about the mulatto being Indian. My father thinks that his grandfather was Lumbee, but I couldn't find the surname Boatwright among Lumbee surnames. Maybe Choctaw.... I'm not for sure though.
