    3. PS, she married John T. Boatright in Trinidad, CO in June, 1887. They subsequently moved to Denver. Her mother Mary Jane Bethel was in Denver at the time. Yes this is my Maud Bethel Boatright. She had told me that she had married on Christmas day. And yes, her divorce from Boatright was not finalized for about another month. I can't understand why she would marry a 77 year-old man, unless for security. She had an infant son at the time. I had thought that Jones was a RR brakeman and had died in a train accident. Apparently that isn't true. It's my understanding that she divorced John T. Boatright because of his chronic alcoholism, failure to support, and desertion. You can see photos of Maud and her son Harold at http://home.lightspeed.net/~davey Dave Hug ----- Original Message ----- From: Pearlsoup@aol.com To: BOATRIGHT-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Monday, November 18, 2002 11:45 AM Subject: [BOATRIGHT-L] Re: John T. Linda PS I have written to Jay before, asking for a copy of the newspaper article but never heard back. We had talked before as his SWR Jones appears in a book I have about some of the Oregon pioneers. In Denver, Apapahoe County, on Dec 25, 1890 Silas W.R. JONES married Maud BOATRIGHT. 15 days later this 77 year old man divorced 20 year old Maud having found that his old man's darling was already married. SWR JONES also simultaneously divirced 21 year old Cynthia HARBINE, another misadventure of his from Portland Oregon. A woman by the name of Anna TORSO hired a private investigator, Charles MEEKER, to track Silas JONES to Kokomo Indiana where he had married Hanna SLYTER and settled into happily married life (finally). Charles MEEKER tyried to abduct Silas JONES from his Indiana home in 1892, likely to shake him down on a bigamy charge in Denver. Silas was rescued at the train station by the Kokomo sheriff and MEEKER fled. If any present day descendant of any of these folks are interested in reading fascinating newspaper accounts of the above, please e-mail me...Jay Jones (GGGrandson of Silas WR JONES)s WR JONES) ==== BOATRIGHT Mailing List ==== Nancy Gay Crawford, list administrator Boatright-Boatwright Family Heritage http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ngcrawford/boatright/index.htm ==== BOATRIGHT Mailing List ==== Boatright Surname Resources at Rootsweb. http://resources.rootsweb.com/surnames/b/o/BOATRIGHT/ Always try to be Fair, Honest and Kind!
