Hi, Does anyone on the list have any details on the family of Martin J. Boatright and Patience Steedman of Lexington Co., SC? In addition to my own Boatwright ancestry (Thomas Boatright/Amy Rushing), I have been researching the Steedman family in SC and a Patience Steedman married Martin Boatwright, b. abt 1782. In looking at various sources, along with following the census, I am not sure that I have a correct list of his children. And, when I do find his children, I am not sure that I understand their families. (eg, som William, b. abt 1805, had a son Uriah Martin Boatwright about 1833. Most sources give that Uriah's mother as a Dempsey Barton - who also happens to be a daughter of Patience's sister Hannah. However, Dempsey was unmarried in 1841 and the 1830 and 1840 census clearly show that William's spouse was older than Dempsey. Likely, his first wife died in childbirth of 2nd son Azariah in 1841 and William married his cousin afterwards.) I hope someone can help with this... BTW, Does anyone know why Martin seems to be such a popular name in the Boatwright family? My Friend Boatwright had a son Martin in Texas. And I do not know of any link between him and the Boatwrights in SC. john. Nashua, NH
