Hello Cousin Thomas Boatright and Amy Rushing my 5th ggrandparents. I would love to share info. Do you know that they were with Austin's first 300 settlers in TX? Write soon. Merry Christmas and God bless. Linda
I am a direct descendant of Martin and Patience Steadman Boatwright. I can relay a lot of data on each and all lines from them on and some backwards.Martin's som William Boatwright was born in 1807 and did marry Ddempsey Barton [Dau. of Richard Barton and Hannah Steadman] who was born abt. 1810 per Lexington Co.census data and geneaology reports. They had 3 children known Uriah Martin,Azariah J. and Elizabeth Frances. The third sister of Patience who was Sarah married James Warren. Patience's father George Steadman,Sr. was married 4 times and the bulk of his children were by his 3rd wife Priscilla Johnson[ there were 5 ] he had 2 children by his 2nd wife Mary Barton, who was the older sister of the Richard Barton who married Hannah Steadman. Jerry Boatwright[SC]
My Mary Elizabeth Boatwright, daughter of George Washington Boatwright and granddaughter of James W. and Mary Abigail Hartley Boatwright, named her son Martin also. Winnie
Hi, Does anyone on the list have any details on the family of Martin J. Boatright and Patience Steedman of Lexington Co., SC? In addition to my own Boatwright ancestry (Thomas Boatright/Amy Rushing), I have been researching the Steedman family in SC and a Patience Steedman married Martin Boatwright, b. abt 1782. In looking at various sources, along with following the census, I am not sure that I have a correct list of his children. And, when I do find his children, I am not sure that I understand their families. (eg, som William, b. abt 1805, had a son Uriah Martin Boatwright about 1833. Most sources give that Uriah's mother as a Dempsey Barton - who also happens to be a daughter of Patience's sister Hannah. However, Dempsey was unmarried in 1841 and the 1830 and 1840 census clearly show that William's spouse was older than Dempsey. Likely, his first wife died in childbirth of 2nd son Azariah in 1841 and William married his cousin afterwards.) I hope someone can help with this... BTW, Does anyone know why Martin seems to be such a popular name in the Boatwright family? My Friend Boatwright had a son Martin in Texas. And I do not know of any link between him and the Boatwrights in SC. john. Nashua, NH

There is a Ollie Boatright 18y old living in the household and she is a granddaughter along with her brother Hugh. I am looking for a Harriet Boatright who may have married Green Sizemore, and found Ollie as I searched. It would seem that the mother of Ollie and Hugh would have been a daughter of Mathew Dennis.

Sorry to but in; but I am wondering if you have any Trammells in your data base. Also Smoots. My 5th greatgrandparents ere Thomas and Amy Boarright. They went wieth Austin's 1st 300, But Thomsa got disgusted with Mexican govt and returned to ARK Several of Trammells, Smoots and Boatrights died at this time. Mu gramdfather Lewis was left with Dennis Trammell, believe. Any info helps. Stay intouch. Linda
Don't you mean Harvey Goodson Boatright? What time period are you talking about? My 5th ggrandparents were Thomas and Boaright. They were in ARK. but went with Austin's first 300. Thomas became disgusted with Mexican govt. and returned to AR, Some Trammels , Smoots and Boatrights died at this time. Records lost in civil war of course. My 4 greatgrandfather Lewis was left an orphan. Amy and some of these orphans.returned to TX. Where her land was finally granted James and Burke Trammell were among them. Burke died at the ALAMO. I do know that the Boatrights were very religious.. I don't lnow if this helps any. But sometimes every little bit helps. God luck. Linda
I don't know much about the Boatrights in VA after the Rev War. They followed a part og my Trammell family along with Daniel Boone and Davey Crockett who intermarried with TraMMELLS. They all fought with Andrew Jackson, including the Choctaw and Cherokee, in the Creeek wars. They lost their landfor that of course. The Trammells and others received land grants for fighting in the Rev war. Their land was in the Cumberland Gap area of TN. Of c ourse, the 13 original colonies went to the MS river at that time. I just haven't had time to check for rev soldiers land grants for the Boatrights. My tie with the BoATRIGHTS begins with Thomas and Patsy Boatright who went with Austin's first 300 into TX. They came from ARK where they were sold land grants illegally from a Capt;. Lovely. I believe they were given other land in mArk. Anyway, Thomas got disgusted with the Mexican gov't's demands and their refusal to give him his land grant. He and Amy returned to ARK in the 1830's. This is also a time when a lot of the Trammells and Boatrights died. I have found no record of any epidemic in Ark (Crawford Co). So, my personal opinion is that Thomas or someone who returned to Ark from TX had yellow fever and a lot of our family died. I do know that there was a Valentine Boatright there who was widowed and his children were kept by Trammells and Smoots and Boatrigts. After this some of these orphaned children went with Amy Boatright back to TX. Her land was finally grantyed. two orphans were Burke Trammell and and James Trammell. Burke was killed atthe Alamo. I do know that the Trammells went to OK and TX. Thomas Trammell started Sweetwater TX/ James Trammell had a ranch called the Paddle ranch on the OK side and his brother had a large ranch on the TX side. They raised quarter horses. Also trained polo ponies. Thomas and Patsy were my 5th great grand parents. Their daughter Patsy m Thomas Trammell. They both died during whatever happened in ARK in 1830 This left my grandfather Lewis an orphan. He was cared for by TrAMMELL family members. I don't know if this helps you any. As you can see, there was a lot of re-naming within these families. Good luck and happy hunting. LIN DA

I am from Lexington Co.,SC but am living in Aiken,SC. I have a lot of Kneece data as they intermarried into my Boatwright several times. But your Matilda does not have to be full-bloded Indian. Early census records were sometimes misleading. If a person had any Indian blood or any other non-white ancestry they were not classed as white but as whatever blood they had been " tainted " with. The Kneece line had Indian blood as well as the Hallman line and several other Lexington Co.,SC families.

The 1850 Census for Harrison Co, VA (now WVa) shows Henry H. Boatright (age 51) married to a woman whose name might be either Roda or Roxy. The 1880 Census for Lewis Co WVa shows a widowed Roda Boatright. I would appreciate having any information about Roxana and Henry, or failing that, anything that would identify the WVa Boatrights as a different couple.
