For those of you researching Raleigh Boatwright of Washington Co. who died in Wheeler Co., would you please give me some proof that he was Daniel and Margaret Braswell Boatwright's of Burke Co., GA. son. I have seen this in several places and have found no proof at all. Any help is appreciated. Thank you, Nancy Gay Crawford

However, we need more testers from the various branches of the family. If you are a male Boat(w)right and can trace your line of the family to one of these Boatright ancestors: Thomas (b. 1705 VA., d. 1776 SC., m. Margaret Dyer) John (b. 1730 VA., d. 1790 VA.) Hello John, I also saw that the DNA results for my 1st cousin Joseph Franklin Boatright are hugely different from the other 2 samples! Maybe there is something to this Allen story! I have been uneasy about the placement of my family with Daniel on the family tree since I sent it in. I have another 1st cousin who agreed to test but don't know if he has done it. His name is Ronald Boatright also from Charlotte, NC. I will e-mail him today to see if he has done it. Thanks, Billie
Hi, We got back two sets of DNA results today. Everyone can view the results at: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/boatwright If you click on Y-Results, you will see a display of the three results we have so far. One is almost a complete match for George's reference DNA results. The other is nothing at all close. Based on paper genealogies, all three of these should be virtually identical. This is the power of the DNA technology. We get science to help us prove our lines. And it does show the value for those of you who have done a lot of research to get your line tested. There has been an assumption that all of the Boatwrights descend, more or less, from the same family. This is evidence that this assumption may not be true. Or that there were some adoptions or name changes back in time that have created some different lines biologically. It is only going to come from getting lots of lines tested that you can really know for sure. john.
Hi, If you have not seen it, this week's Newsweek magazine has a terrific article on DNA testing and genealogy. Here is a link to it. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11080815/site/newsweek/ We should be getting a number of results in shortly from the people who took their tests in December. We still need lots of families to get represented. john.
I am not sure of your branch, but I know that mine began in VA, then were in NC before the Rev War. Given land grants in TN for service in War. In Cumberland Gap Area. They went to KY with Daniel Boone, then to Ark. Thomas and Amy Rushing Boatright my 5ggrandparents were with Austins first 300 settlers into TX. They always seemed to be the first people into a territory, and moved on when others began to move in. They intermarried with my Trammell family, and seemed to travel with them through each new territory. Two orphan Trammell boys went to TX with them. Burke Trammell died at the Alamo. The Trammells intermarried with the Crocketts, also. The Rushings were also companions, and the Smoots. They were in Tx @ 1830. I know that some of the Trammells that did not move to new territories went to GA, Fl, LA during the Civil War to escape hostilities. I hope this helps a little. Happy hunting, Linda

Hi, Great news! We had 2 new members join the DNA study using the $30 off Holiday coupons. And I have been able to get us more coupons. If anyone wants to get themselves tested, now is the time. FTDNA's offer ends promptly at 12/31/2005 so rush over and order your kits now. To qualify you need to order either the 25 marker or 37 marker kit. http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.asp?code=H48448&special=True&projecttype=S john. _____________________ Hi, Several months ago we setup a Boatright/Boatwright Surname DNA study with Family Tree DNA. This is an opportunity for us to answer some of the questions we have about the common origins for many of our Boatwright lines. I have been active in several of the other studies, and they have given very interesting results. We should see similar results for the Boatwrights. We were going to wait until we could setup a great web site to track the results before making this study active, but FTDNA has given us an incentive to get into gear this month. The company has issued the project two $30 off certificates on their 25 or 37 marker Y-DNA tests. These are the tests that only males named Boatright or Boatwright can take as they track the male line pedigree. father to son. They have also have given us a $15 off certificate on an mtDNA test that is used for testing the maternal line as it is passed from a mother to all of her children. Anyone can take this test. (This is the type of testing that was done to show that all people of European descent are descended from one of seven women. This is the basis of the book "Seven Daughters of Eve".) Here is the link to the project site: http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.asp?code=H48448&special=True&projecttype=S If you want to participate, please send me an email at gene@tqsi.com and I will fill you in on the details. You may have already seen this, but thought others might enjoy!! Merry Christmas!!! Twas the Night Before Christmas For Genealogists Unknown 'Twas the night before Christmas when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, not even my spouse. The dining room table with clutter was spread With pedigree charts and with letters which said: "Too bad about the data for which you wrote. It sank in a storm on an ill-fated boat." Stacks of old copies of wills and of such Were proof that my work had become much too much. Our children were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of sugarplums danced in their heads. And I at my table was ready to drop From work on my album with photos to crop. Christmas was here, and of such was my lot That presents and goodies and toys I'd forgot. Had I not been so busy with grandparents' wills, I'd not have forgotten to shop for such thrills. While others had bought gifts that would bring Christmas cheer, I'd spent time researching those birthdates and years. While I was thus musing about my sad plight, A strange noise on the lawn gave me such a fright. Away to the window I flew in a flash, Tore open the drapes and I yanked up the sash. When what to my nearsighted eyes should appear, But an overstuffed sleigh and eight small reindeer. Up to the housetop the reindeer they flew With a sleigh full of toys, and ol' Santa Claus, too. And then in a twinkling, I heard on the roof The prancing and pawing of thirty-two hoofs. The TV antenna was no match for their horns, And look at my roof, with hoof-prints adorned! As I drew in my head, and bumped it on the sash, Down the cold chimney fell Santa - KEE-RASH! Dear Santa had come from the roof in a wreck And tracked soot on the carpet! I could just wring his neck! Spotting my face, good old Santa could see I had no Christmas spirit, you'd have to agree. He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work And filled all the stockings. (I felt like a jerk). Here was Santa who'd brought us such gladness and joy; When I'd been too busy for even one toy. He spied my research on the table all spread. "A genealogist!", he cried (My face was all red). "Tonight I've met many like you", Santa grinned, As he pulled from his sack a large book he had penned. I gazed with amazement - the cover, it read: "Genealogy Lines For Which You Have Plead". "I know what it's like as a genealogy bug", He said as he gave me a great Santa hug. "While the elves make the sleighful of toys I now carry, I do some research in the North Pole Library!" "A special treat I am thus able to bring To genealogy folks who can't find a thing." "Now off you go to your bed for a rest - I'll clean up the house of this genealogy mess". As I climbed up the stairs full of gladness and glee, I looked back at Santa who'd brought much to me. While settling in bed, I heard Santa's clear whistle To his team, which then rose like the down of a thistle. And I heard him exclaim as he flew out of sight, "Family history is fun! Merry Christmas! Good night!" *********************************** Always try to be Fair, Honest and Kind!
