The list then will miss some very good genealogical information. I get too many complaints from list members to not be able to control "thank yous" and "me toos." 3. Tom--- We are not to pick and choose, in the sense of "Sally's information is not as reliable as Joe's so I will not release her posts." And we are to keep moderation of gatewayed posts to a minimum. However, as List Admins set the rules for their lists and whereas many have a rule that thank yous are to be private, I see nothing that would preclude the weeding of those "inappropriate" posts from travel to the lists. We are simply maintaining the integrity of the archives by such action, just as one may on the boards. My recollection is that any moderation and review of content for gateway posts before release to the list is to be done with thought and care and not abused. Most posts will be appropriate to release. Not all will be. We can moderate our posters that subscribe to the list to ensure appropriate "behaviour".. the only way to do that for gatewayed posts is to moderate all gatewayed posts. The distinction being that a subscriber can be unsubscribed and banned. I agree that to not have the ability to maintain our lists appropriately and have dictums from the board side would cause me to close each and every gateway. We must keep the flow of the list in mind and the culture of the list and are most in touch with what sets off the ire of our subscribers. We should be trusted to act in a judicious manner. Cheers, Lauren
