    3. Not a hoax? Ok, then. Remember that we do not have the power or technical ability to actually delete a post. Posts are the copyrighted property of the author - that's why we can't edit messages. When we "delete" a board message, all we are doing is moving it to a holding folder for staff to look at and decide what to do. So, as mentioned a while back, the most appropriate thing to do is to refer the author to staff to request that all their posts be removed from all boards. This is the most direct route, even for one message, as staff would need to verify that the author actually wants to delete the post. It is rare on my boards for anyone to request removal of all their posts. I recall only once that happened and that request came from another board admin. That was discouraging because the posts were truly useful to researchers, so I left the ost up to staff to work that out, after removing one or two posts as requested. The encouraging part is that of all posts removed over the years, staff has not returned even one of them to the board. This indicates shows staff support big time. As admins, the encouragement probably means we are doing a good job, though I am fully aware that some issues without resolution still fall through the cracks. Finally, I thank readers for using the abuse button, even though some complaints turn out to be self serving, or a tempest in a teacup. No matter how carefully we watch for problems, some will get by for others to discover and report. We salute those others. donkelly

    3. Hi I am new here and just read the messages regarding the member's request and the comment that this member's posts have "raised a rucus" on various boards. I wonder if it's the same member whom I reported today to messageboards@rootsweb.com because the member has posted the same message on 260 localities boards both in and outside of the US. The posts are the same and are advertising fraud by Google Ad Services. The member only joined Ancestry on September 10, 2009 and has posted 260 threads since. I did report this post, but not the individual nor each individual message, since reporting each messageas SPAM would take quite a while. In the event the source of these emails is about this same member, I wanted you to know that I did report the posts to the above email address. If you would like a copy of my email to messageboards@rootsweb.com, don't hesitate to let me know.
