I've evidence that a posting I made to a Rootsweb message board has appeared, without my permission, in an Ancestry.it database - is this normal practise, does it confirm to privacy conditions. ----------------------------------------- John- A lot would depend on factors you haven't given us. First: the information in your posting--is it original text or is it all just factual data? Data would be in the public domain but original free-flowing text that you penned yourself could be copyrighted by you. Factual material may be copied by anyone (but hopefully attributed to you as the source, if indeed you were the source). Original text should not be. Second: we'd need to know what type of database and WHOSE database in which you found your post. If it is found in a private database and someone else is claiming your copyrighted original content--then you can request that the person remove it. However, if Ancestry is merely mirroring your original content to its co-branded site, the RootsWeb AUP does give the company permission to do that. So....we'd need more information to properly answer your question. Joan **************Start the year off right. This is a case of Ancestry itself displaying the post from its Italian site ******************************************** * John Dobson * * * * http://www.thedobsons.me.uk * * * ******************************************** ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, January 30, 2008 12:22 AM Subject: Re: [BAd] Postings to rootsweb message boards appearing onanceestry.com website > I've evidence that a posting I made to a Rootsweb message board has > appeared, without my permission, in an Ancestry.it database - is this > normal > practise, does it confirm to privacy conditions. > ----------------------------------------- > John- > > A lot would depend on factors you haven't given us. > > First: the information in your posting--is it original text or is it all > just factual data?
