Ian, Gatewayed messages (from the board to the list) always come from the address: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com And they always begin with the statement: This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. This particular piece of spam was NOT sent to the *list* itself, but to the administrator of the list (rosenberg-admin@rootsweb.com). Spammers probably harvested it from http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/surname/r/rosenburg.html#ROSENBURG Mailing list addresses do not contain "-admin".
