Marilyn, Based on past experience with this list and a few of my opinionated (including myself here!) fellow Board Admins, this string IMHO is going to be one of those that go on and on. . . .raising more questions than it answers, and in the end doing little more than demonstrating the fact that we all have our opinions, and those opinions do not very often mesh very well from a board policy point of view. That being said, before this string really gets going, please let me share a few things (yes, just my OPINION, just like everyone else) about THIS SPECIFIC SITUATION before I go back to my boards. 1. These posts are all similar in nature, and in most cases nearly identical wording. 2. These posts are CROSS-POSTED on numerous boards across Ohio, typically all in the same time period, and all similar in nature. 3. Our opinions aside, by the author's own admission they ARE NOT INTENDED AS GENEALOGY, BUT TO GATHER INFORMATION AND RESEARCH FOR HIS MASTER'S THESIS. 4. The purpose and topic of the boards are to seek help and gather GENEALOGY information relative to the respective counties, and the author's own words clearly state his purpose is PERSONAL GAIN, or specifically a Master's thesis having nothing to do with genealogy. Now then, my own personal comment here as Admin of the Ohio statewide board as well as several counties before I drop out of this string before it gets out of control on this list (again). Yesterday, I removed (yes, DELETED) a small handful of these posts from some of my boards as I noticed them appear, since IMHO they are inappropriate by a reasonable standard. This morning, I woke up to NINETEEN OBJECTIONS, nearly all of which were this very poster. I have just finished removing (yes, REMOVING) them all, as well as a few responses to them that have subsequently been posted. I am about to go back and search for more, to (I hope) point out to this poster that his posts are at best inappropriate and at worst could be defined as cross-posting and/or even spam. I am all for doing whatever I am able to do to help anyone with personal research, whether genealogical in nature or not, but IMHO this is simply inappropriate for the RootsWeb boards on more than one count. Just my opinion. Now I am out of this topic string (either ON this list or OFF of it, please), and am going back and see how many more such posts need to be cleaned out. David E. I received an objection this morning for this post on my Allen County, OH board: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.ohio.counties.allen /1 714/mb.ashx Over the last few months, I've seen these posts across several of my Ohio county boards, but each one is board specific, in that the poster names schools that are in that specific county. I don't see anything wrong with the post, in fact I found it quite interesting. Can anyone tell me what's wrong with it? Thanks, Marilyn
