I just noticed a new post on my DEARBORN board that sounded spammy, so I did a 'view posts' on the poster, and noticed that the poster is methodically hitting all of the 'D' boards right now. The poster's username is Maindron11. Now off to delete the post just made to my DEARBORN board. -- Mary
Joan, the problem here was not just Google, but the fact that there were still copies of the deleted archive messages. They got spidered by Google again and again (no idea why google would have access to these pages?). They had to vanish in order to also vanish from Google's search results. I thought some of us would like to know about these extra copies ... Hi, just a final closing remark re. that matter - after about 8 weeks. Following a poster's request I finally succeeded in a three-fold deletion! The original messages on the board in question I could remove myself. Since the poster's name was mentioned on this list here, there were 2 messages to be deleted from the BAd archives. And - surprise - there were additional COPIES of the archived BAd messages as well, that cropped up with a Google search. Never heard of such copies before! Fortunately RW support was able to get these deleted too, even if it took it's time. Finally, and it's worth mentioning after quite a few emails I've sent to support without ever hearing back during these last years, THEY EVEN THANKED ME for my work. Actually David did. I think you'll agree with me that this deserves a round of applause! Tilman
Actually, anything that you find via a Google search that is deleted on the source record will be automatically deleted from Google the next time Google reindexes its search engine. It is extremely frustrating. You would think when it is mentioned that we administer a board they would automatically forward the complaint to David or whoever. NOT. Hi Marilyn, Yes, it's been reported to helpdesk/message boards. You might want to send a report to messageboards@rootsweb.com though with your observance and a link to your board - I didn't notice the difference with mine. I have been receiving the same answer from helpdesk for different reports. I am beginning to think they aren't reading the question or realize that we do know what we are doing. Hi Yvonne Using OSX 10.5.6 and either Firefox 3.0.10 or Safari 3.2.1 , neither the Rootsweb nor Ancestry versions run off the page. The pink "Error Retrieving Board" section appears to be different for each page and browser combination (appearing in all). If Firefox 3.0.1 isn't a typo, then maybe an upgrade to 3.0.10 will fix your problem. It does seem to be among the missing. I believe you should report it to messageboards@rootsweb.com . Joan In a message dated 5/4/2009 4:29:59 P.M. Thank you, Valorie! That's the same issue, I'm sure. Hi, Peter, My bad - Firefox 3.0.1 is a type - I'm using 3.0.10. I haven't seen the "error retrieving" error lately so I can't comment. From the Rootsweb side, I checked my account, etc. and those pages are all centered on the page. It's only the Message Boards and only in FF. I've logged in and out, restarted and refreshed, cleared private data, changed the page display and nothing returns it to center- justification. No word from the HelpDesk but it's an esthetic issue - I can read everything on the page. Oh well. Thanks for your response. I use Linux, and checked out both the RW and Anc side with two browsers; Firefox and Konqueror. On both, the RW side is justified far to the left, although it doesn't run off the left edge. The Anc. side, in contrast, is at least a half-inch in from the left, and looks better in design. Not the color, which is what keeps me on the RW side, LOL! Also, the RW masthead is malformed, with the right-hand links being displayed on the left under the top links. Anc masthead displays as it has before. Yvonne, after looking at a few boards - my display does look normal, as far as I can tell. I'm not using a Mac though, instead a PC with Win XP sp2 I have the "Error Retrieving Board" message though that has been reported here earlier ... I'm using Mac 10.4.11 and Firefox 3.0.1 and don't see any differences due to Rootsweb changes.
