    1. Re: [BAd] Request to delete "all" posts
    2. Diane- I think you misunderstand the reason for the recycle bin. It isn't so that staff can check on our message deletions. We as admins DO have the power and authority to remove posts for reason OR by request of the poster. As I understand it that is what this query was about--request of the poster. Only the poster hadn't made the request correctly. Not even STAFF can actually delete a post from the recycle bin--but it is removed from public view--it is just the way the boards work and have always worked. Even in the old days when board admins didn't know about and couldn't access the recycle bin--one did exist. When a post was deleted it went to a deleted file that only staff could access--the recycle bin is merely an updated version of the old deleted file. Joan In a message dated 9/12/2009 11:32:51 A.M. Eastern Daylight Time, dhettrick@earthlink.net writes: Not a hoax? Ok, then. Remember that we do not have the power or technical ability to actually delete a post. Posts are the copyrighted property of the author - that's why we can't edit messages. When we "delete" a board message, all we are doing is moving it to a holding folder for staff to look at and decide what to do. So, as mentioned a while back, the most appropriate thing to do is to refer the author to staff to request that all their posts be removed from all boards. This is the most direct route, even for one message, as staff would need to verify that the author actually wants to delete the post. Diane in Seattle

    3. I recently had a similar request. The poster wanted every post that she/he made removed. I wrote back telling the user that only the original poster can request that posts be removed and then told him/her how to request board posts be remove by using the "report abuse" link on each post since I thinking that each post was different. To date no delete request were received. BTW, he/she gave me a user name and when I searched that user name it came up with no hits. This may not be the same situation or person but is sounded similar enough for me to comment. ALSO, I have asked the staff to remove posts in the middle of a thread and they did so successfully without disturbing the rest of the thread. J. Asche On Sat, Sep 12, 2009 at 12:50 AM, J.A. 3. Hi all, This is no hoax.  This morning I received the same request to "delete every post on my board" from this poster.  Besides be an admin on a few surname boards I also admin one of the boards on the World Ancestry Project.  Which is still under RootsWeb. She has been causing quite a ruckus for well over a week on the boards.  I would like to know the same thing.  How can I delete every post especially where others have made comments/replies after and to this poster? And on a side note any good suggestions for biting your tongue so to speak?  LOL.  Sorry, I really enjoy doing this but it can be a little frustrating when I'm not sure if I am actually doing a good job or not. Also, when I restored the one I had caused to be there, instead of going to the end of the list where it should be, it is interspersed among the other older posts. How did this happen and how do I correct it? Am I misunderstanding something completely? (Not an unlikely scenario.) Thanks for help.
