Confirmation that this was a new message and not associated with any changes being made to the message board is reassuring. Hannah

For boards without an administrator, the "Links & Announcement" link is "Become An Admin." Of course, all this may change when the new board system is implemented. :)

This has nothing to do with any changes in the message boards that are coming. This has been how the notifications of replies have worked since the current board system was launched in June 2001. Have I received a notification of this message as a result of changes being made to the boards, or has someone just made a mistake in responding to an old post about a problem that has already been resolved by staff? 3. If you have a board and are logged in as the administrator, click on Edit Links and Announcements and you can put all the information in there that you would like to have displayed. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/RW/BF.2ADIAE/1020.2.1.1.1.1.1.1.1.2.3 Message Board Post: Lisa, The "Info page" is now called "Links & Announcements". When you want to move a message to a Topic or Locality board, you should use the "Browse" button because if a board title has a space or non-alpha character in it, simply replacing all the > with periods won't produce the correct path. To move a message to a Surnames board, in the Path field just type surnames.thename replacing "thename" with the actual surname (example to move a message to the SMITH board, type surnames.smith in the path field). The current Help, Rules, etc. are probably not going to be updated at this point. Jackie

When they arrive there should be a tutorial explaining admin functions. In the meantime--the name of the INFO page was changed to Links & Announcements (and will probably change again under the upgraded system coming soon). For the time being, when moving a message or if you need assistance with other admin functions, you might take a look at a reply I posted on the Boards-Admins list back in May 2002: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/BOARDS-ADMINS/2002-05/1021145315 Joan

This was part of history, it's relevant to genealogy, and should stay. If staff deleted it because they feared it might attract inflammatory responses -- that's not good enough. The board admin could be relied on to take care of that. Wiping out the query and its helpful responses is wrong. Did the staff ever let you get it back?

It is still mentioned in the Administrator pop-up faq -- but I don't see it on any pages -- not the ones I administer, not the ones I know other people administer. Did Ancestry eliminate the Admin Info pop-up at some point between 2001 and 2006, and just forget to take it out of the Administrator FAQ pop-up?

For instance, it says that an Admin can fill out an "info page" for a board with their own name, and with additional resources for that surname. If such a thing as an "info page" still exists, I am unable to find it. :( Searching this board using that phrase doesn't get me anywhere. A basic tutorial would really be a help. Because I kept getting error message when trying to move a message, I surfed this board today and learned how to do it manually by inserting periods instead of angle brackets > > to get the message to move. I had to hold my breath and cross my fingers to see if the subsequent messages in the thread would also move. (Yes, they do -- but there was nothing to tell me that in advance). Argh.
