    1. If I don't know a County, what do I do with misplaced post?

    3. I have a post on the ELLIOTT surname board that says: <Black Rock, Arkansas, now called Hogan, is at the confluence of the Black and White Rivers in Lawrence Co., Arkansas. If anyone has the history and/or genealogy of the first Hogan's living there please contact me > There is NO mention of ELLIOTT in the subject or message. I do not know anything about Ark but it seems I should move this post to an Ark board -- right? Where do I move posts like this if I do not know a county in other states? 3. I would certainly want to see the names of pallbearers and a good point was made about including the ministers. However, I wish people would not include the names of the funeral directors or funeral home. That information is very easy to come by, and it's dismaying to keep pulling up articles just because someone with the same surname owned a funeral home. Diane Hettrick dhettrick@earthlink.net

If the reply is about the original family then it is clearly relevant to the original post. It might be a different story if someone posted about John SMITH in your county and someone replied--what a coincidence I'm researching a John SMITH in Timbuktu. If it is clear to you that there is NO connection between the two you might want to make the reply into an original post and break it off the thread on your board and move it to the Timbuktu board. <<Another situation that has come up as I'm getting farther back in years cleaning up my board -- Someone requests information and a reply posts the link to a web site that is no longer valid, should the post containing the web site link be deleted?>> I'd leave it unless the link is the ONLY thing in the post. If the post also contains information I'd leave it--and additionally, I wouldn't go LOOKING for these old dead links. You are going to find more than you bargained for. Any internal links brought over from the old GenConnect boards were lost at the time of the transfer to the current board system--but that isn't a reason to hunt down these old posts and delete them. 2. Hello All, Thanks to everyone who gave me their thoughts on adding the surname of the pastor, funeral director, etc. Also about witnesses to Deeds and Wills......I haven't come across that situation yet, so I hadn't thought about it, but it's good to know. I have two more questions -- hope you don't mind. On my county board, someone is looking for John Smith in my county. Someone replies that they found the family living in another county in another state. Should the post be moved to that county/state board where the family was found, or left on my county board? Another situation that has come up as I'm getting farther back in years cleaning up my board -- Someone requests information and a reply posts the link to a web site that is no longer valid, should the post containing the web site link be deleted? I'd appreciate your advice again. Thank you for all the help, Marilyn

    3. I do the same thing as Jackie, add family names first, then extras. If I'm lazy I add names in the order they appear - but it still gets family first because the majority of family names are in the obits Same with neighbors mentioned in Deeds. Same with witnesses & the registrar in Wills. Judy On 8/10/06, Jackie Wilson Goddard <jaws64@comlinkusa.net> wrote: > > > Marilyn, > > I include them, as well as the pallbearers, if there's room. In the case of a long post with multiple items (one lookup volunteer posts a single message for everything found on that family), there may be many names, so I add all the family names to the Surnames box first, then go back and add the "extras" until I hit the space limit. A few years ago, a gentleman who had been a pallbearer at my grandfather's funeral contacted me after he saw my posting of the funeral memorial card. Bonus for me: he was a family friend as well as the local insurance agent in the community where I was and remembered both of my parents even though we moved away 36 years ago. Without the entry in the Surnames field, he probably would not have seen the posting and I would not have received his memories. Having lost both of my parents now, the memories he shared, particularly those of my mother before Multiple Sclerosis, are even more precious. Jackie -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Sometimes that is the only clue to the location where their ancestors lived. I know there are divergent opions on this, but I appreciate all the help we can get in finding these elusive clergy. My mom's uncle was Bishop of Sherbrooke, QC, CAN. I'd hope that one day I will see his name on a baptismal record - just because it's fun for me. Regards, Sharyn
