Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/BF.2ADIAE/1217.2 Message Board Post: Hi Kate Clicking on the link you gave seems to give confusing results, so I'm not sure which board you're writing about. If it was the Co. Kerry, Ireland, board, no posts made by you have been deleted (I'm the admin and I just checked). You can check posts under your author name to see if the post was transferred to another board. I clicked on your author name and was able to find tons of posts, including many in 2003. In any case, this board is reserved for board admins to communicate with each other. If you'll e-mail the board's administrator (see Links & Announcements), s/he can tell you if your post was removed or simply transferred to another board. Best wishes, Lynne

    3. QUESTION. Can the fast fields in the surname box be edited. If your computer is set accordingly it will memories previous entries for that box.. You cannot edit the entry in the computer, but once the entry is in the box, then you can edit it. It is a very good way of speeding the entering up. It also works in the surname box in the bottom and and the subject box at the top. It also works anywere else as well as in rootsweb. BEWARE make sure you have the correct entery to repeat before you use it. Peter McCrae; Boards admin.

    3. I am a Mac user and things are different where we live. Because of your & Jackie's responses and the fact that I can fill out other on-line forms (as when I am buying something) with a single key-stroke, my current theory is that my browser Safari is saving everything I put into a form and it is reading the surname and subject boxes as forms. I hadn't noticed on the subject until today because I rarely change an entire subject. However, when I type the first letter of the surname in the box, I get an entire list of everything I have ever typed into that box, with the computer's best guess in the box and highlighted. My original question was whether these could be edited. I still don't know, but I think they can be retrained. I also think it's time for me to join the local Mac group LOL! 3. I believe the fast fields that you are talking about is a feature of some browsers. I know I have this feature with Firefox. I'm not exactly what this feature has to do with the surname box on the message board however? You can edit the surname box by simply typing in the surnames or deleting surnames, but this is not a function of the browser's fast field. Just good old fashioned typing and deleting. To clear the box completely simply highlight the entire box and and use the space bar to make it all go away. I'm not sure that this will answer your question, however. Marilyn- This happens when a posted message that is appearing on the expanded view version of the board includes a lengthy URL or something that can't be broken down to fit in the normal width of the window. The board will expand horizontally to accomodate the message. I don't think anything can be done to change this until the message that is causing this to happen works its way out of the top 25 posts on the board--unless you decrease the number of posts to view at one time and get that message out of the way sooner. OR...unless you view the board in collapsed display mode and just view a single full message at a time--then only the one offending post will result in having to scroll. Joan

    3. They are also called quick fields, and smart fields as well as fast fields. Different programs have different names. When you start to type in the surname box, all the previous things you have typed come up so if you have typed it in before, you just choose from a drop down list instead of retyping every time. It also makes it easy to be sure you have the names in the same order each time.
