How are you accessing them? When using the banner link on rootsweb pages it goes to a blank page. Hi, The only lnk that did not work for me was the rootsweb homepage toolbar/masthead link. I tried all the other links into the master page ? (the page that shows the alphabet listings and state/country listings) they work... I always enter the boards from ancestry.com's family community link... which has my membership link as my boards ID... so I enter already signed in... Would this be a rootsweb problem or a ancestry problem since the boards actually belong to ancestry with an ancestry.com addy? MY BOARDS: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=admin.main&r=an 1. or: http://www.ancestry.com/community/ 2. or: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=main&r=rw 1 & 2 above the identical page different routes to it... they work.. Jill- I was going to let David's reply stand on this part of your question but I just thought of an additional possibility and thought I'd add it to what has already been posted... In some cases boards are not orphaned--they are awaiting transfer from one admin to another. When that happens the old admin notifies staff that another person is taking over for them and staff orphans the board and puts up the BECOME AN ADMIN link. The new admin to whom the board is being transferred is then given a week to click the link and adopt the board. During that time period others may click the link but their request won't be processed unless the person to whom the board is being transferred doesn't adopt it within the week--then another admin request could be honored. So perhaps the links you clicked on are awaiting an apointed transfer of admin. Joan ............ Thanks for the suggestion - I was wondering whether or not something like this was the case. I'll just stand by and wait then. One of the boards really needs A LOT of cleaning, so I'd better not visit in the meantime - sort of like standing in an unkept kitchen or garden, and being too agitated by the mess to be able to work! ~ Cheers, Jill _________________________________________________________________ Ready for the world's first international mobile film festival celebrating the creative potential of today's youth? In any case--let staff know in advance and it will be taken care of. Joan
I claimed a board today that I requested about two days ago, but while Elaine typically does it in a day or two you should realistically allow a week or two before asking about it because like everyone else she does sometimes get pretty busy. Thanks again Joan... I wasn't sure how that worked and I had never seen someone post something and actually include in their message it was spam... Peter- You know better than that. The purpose of the Boards-Admins list/board and also listowners and other RootsWeb help lists is that they are places for peer to peer assistance. They are not places staff is expected to deal with matters that are better addressed in private on the HelpDesk, by use of the Report Abuse link or by contacting message board staff directly. Our RootsWeb Help lists and boards are not places for airing dirty linen and making accusations that always only give us one side of a story and need to be addressed by those in charge in private where all of the facts can be studied. It is not that these issues won't be dealt with--it is just that they won't be dealt with in THIS venue by your peers. Joan

Just notify messageboards@rootsweb.com and let them contact the admin of record. That is usually all that is needed. It is NOT a place to complain about or report admins whose judgment calls you don't agree with. The board has had a few arguments lately, no profanity or stuff like that, just disagreements. It's time consuming for the user to get a notification on a board and when you go to view the message, it's been deleted. This happens very frequently on this board. It's become so annoying that I removed my notification for this board even though it's me that loses by not seeing posts on my family. Too bad this person has a power trip going on and is taking full advantage of it. I suspect that more people will leave as time passes.
