Yeah, There are some very strange things going on with the boards. Classifications are missing, a couple of messages I moved to a more appropriate county board are back on the board where they were originally posted, and messages that I looked at are no longer in bold like they normally are after a I read a post. There are some boards that I simply can not post to (I don't admin this boards) no matter how many times I go back and try to post to them I get an error message. I am very frustrated because I reported this to the help desk and received a very terse reply. I can understand that this problem could be on my end; however, I am able to post to most boards but there are four that I simply cannot post too. I keep getting an error message. Even if the problem is on my end it doesn't mean that the help desk has to be rude or abrupt. They tell us to report problems to the help desk then when you do they don't help. Okay, sorry for venting about the lack of help at the help desk as I said I am frustrated with the 'system.' However, this morning when My Notifications didn't show boards for which I knew there had been several postings, I checked them and came across one where all the posts I've previously dealt with have changed back to "you never looked at me" status. It's very discouraging when you depend on the color to know what's previously been dealt with. Earlier this week there was another problem when someone attempted to post a spam message on the Harbuck board. I am not the admin for that board, but the message to deal with it was passed on to me as admin of the Harbaugh board. I reported the problem to Help Desk but after a couple of message exchanges have given up trying to explain the problem there.<sigh> It does seem the boards are having problems these days. Beth
I've spot checked a few of mine and all have their classifications. HOWEVER, I discovered something else almighty weird: 1st, I always access the boards thru RootsWeb and, upon adoption, I clean up the entire board - so the link to every message on every board I admin should be *black* as a visited link. On the first board I spot checked every link is BLUE. As was the next board I went to. But the 3rd board I checked, the links were BLACK. I am now going thru board by board checking to see which ones are blue so I can ask helpdesk. Strange, huh? Jackie At 05:55 AM 11/17/2006, you wrote: >These are all regular Surname boards. These are all regular Surname boards. I got too tired to check other boards last night. But I know absolutely I cleaned at least half of the 6,000+ messages on this board BEFORE. EVERY message now has NO category specified, so it can't be me just skipping ALL of them. The surname fields are still done, on every one I've re-checked (I'm one that adds every surname from posts). I'm gonna report it. It sure makes me feel nutty... the case of the disappearing categories... Hi all I'm hoping this is a temporary glich, but this morning I noticed something odd when visiting a few boards. Generally, in my browser, new posts I haven't seen are displayed in green font, which turn to black once I've viewed them. Today they're all green, and yes, I am logged in (I know this because I can proceed to the "Admin Center"). This makes figuring out which posts I still need to check, other than the really obvious ones sporting today's date. Is this something I should 'email staff' about? It is just likely in that it would seem very strange that posters would deliberately CHANGE the setting to no classification. The twilight zone boards were versions of old test boards that never had a classification to choose from. The old test "twilight zone" boards don't have a classification box and you won't see one listed on any post made on those boards. On the normal user boards the classification is almost always present because it defaults to Query. Joan
Could a few Admins check boards for posts you KNOW you already cleaned and see if those posts "lost" the category setting (e,g. blank)? As I'm working this board, 100% have "lost" their categories...and I know I did this board before. I know it is obvious, but I was going along cleaning boards tonight and suddenly realized I had not been checking the Category box (Query, Death, etc). THEN I noticed a very regular and respected boards poster had not been doing the Category at all (blank) So just a reminder: No matter how much you clean Boards, be careful not to miss the obvious. It was a wake up call for me. Plus, I had to re-check 50 posts I thought I already did. Ugh. I've been having problems with timeouts on certain boards. I can post to some boards but no matter how many times I go back to try the others it still gives me a timeout error. I use firefox and IE 7. I reported it. Sign in from RW home page was not working from AOL or Internet Explorer. Login in went to "Page Not Found" I did report it. Just wanted to pass on the info. I've been browsing through the surname Message Boards and see that many of them that don't have admins need some cleanup done. Is it acceptable to apply for a board, clean it up and then give it back? Thanks, Lou
I see that there is a 'Yellow box' notice on the helpdesk regarding the difficulty with admin tool on the boards. However I'm having no luck at all in just making a post. I'm trying to post obits to our county board and when I click on the Post button, I get an error 502 Bad Gateway message! So I Googled for a 502 error and this is the best description I found: "A server (not necessarily a Web server) is acting as a gateway or proxy to fulfil the request by the client (e.g. your Web browser or our CheckUpDown robot) to access the requested URL. This server received an invalid response from an upstream server it accessed to fulfil the request. This usually does not mean that the upstream server is down (no response to the gateway/proxy), but rather that the upstream server and the gateway/proxy do not agree on the protocol for exchanging data. Given that Internet protocols are quite clear, it often means that one or both machines have been incorrectly or incompletely programmed." Is it possible that the message boards, that had some maintenance done on them last night (according to another 'yellow box' alert) now have a programming/protocol error? Sharon Dulcich
