I can't really give you an answer but I would venture a guess that it may have something to do with work being done to fix the board problems as stated in the the yellow box on the help page. I do know that some boards are broken and will not accept new posts. As the techs try and fix the problem I would think that we will see more anomalies. But this is a pure guess on my part. J. Even worse is that as I work on my notifications and edit a post, when I try to submit the change I keep getting a 502 error. Oh well, will wait until later in the morning to work on notifications.
Same thing is happening on my boards this morning, even though I read and edit a post once I go back to list messages it shows up as not being read. Bob
Anyone else having weird happenings on any of their boards? I know recently there has been some discussion regarding visited posts being reset to unmarked status for admins and logins reverting to older versions, but I've got more strange things going on in addition to the above. On several of my boards, I have posts that simply refuse to show that they have been read. On my Poland Unknown board, I visited a new post and its reply on the board this morning, and the board still shows that they are unread. I've reloaded the page, left it and come back, logged out, closed my browser, re-opened it and logged back in, and nothing works. In addition, the post and reply do not belong on this board and need to be moved. However, when I enter the path where it's supposed to be moved to, I get an error message: "There was an error with the database. Please check and resubmit." I did check four times. The path is correct, and the board does exist. I tried copying the path from the board itself and pasting it in and even typing it in manually. Nothing works. There are 35 other posts on this board, dated between 7 November and 15 November, that I know I have read that are now marked unread. All of them continue to be marked as unread, no matter how many times I read them. The only thing they seem to have in common is that above the Find a Board text box they all have an error message in large red type that begins with "d:\warp\msgboard\scripts\Message.htx(249): Error executing function "D:\warp\run\MBScriptlets.MarkMessage":" The post I am trying to move also has this error message displayed near the bottom of the page. Anyone else seeing this? Marie, who intends to query the HelpDesk about the "stuck" post.

Is anyone else experiencing troubles with the Boards today? As soon as I try to edit (eg surname box) or delete (eg spam) a post, "The page cannot be displayed" message coming up. It would be best to ask about this on the listowners@rootsweb.com mailing list. Joan

Ah, yes... the infamous David Ellison posts. He is barely within the AUP, but he is within it. He does not solicit for funds on the boards. Should you write him with an interest, he will tell you his fee. You can report abuse on your own board and mark it Attn Staff, to obtain a ruling... if the post remains, you have an answer. If it goes away, you also have an answer. Do not expect an email explaining if they are allowed or not. She quotes brief passages of online sources, and if she is quoting you in the rest of the post, it is only a recitation of names, dates and places. Yes, it is cross-posting, but her original post, to which this is a correction, is still on both boards. I didn't look at the rest of your list, because the links were broken by my email prog., and you didn't remove the "admin" part of the link. Valorie

Hi, Report it to the staff by using the report abuse link. Just use the comment box to note that it's a cross posted message. The staff can remove all the posts made to all boards. You only need to report it once -- they will take care of it. J. Hi Everyone, I have a poster who is cross-posting to several boards, who has taken text out of one of my posts to my county board and used it as her own without my permission. She is also in my opinion skating on thin ice as far as the surname category goes. She puts the surnames in the beginning of the post, but the post ends up being about one certain surname and she then ties it all in by saying "and related names". I have deleted a couple of her posts, one for the cross posting and copyright and then another last night demanding to know why her original post was removed. I emailed her explained why her post was deleted, she then sent back a really nasty email, which I have decided to ignore. But she has again posted this time to say that she has information on a certain person and to go to another board to check it out, but do not ask her on my board, to email her directly. Of course she again copied her original post that I deleted for copyright and it is now on two boards. How should I handle this? To move a post within a surname board -- it will take all replies with it, but not what is above it in the thread. type: surnames.surname replace surname with the actual name of the board. ie surnames.wombat and it will move to a thread of its own on the same board (wombat surname) If a post needs to be moved to a different surname board type: surnames.newsurname replace newsurname with the actual name of the board. ie surnames.feeblemeister and it will move to the other board and take all the replies to it along with it When an admin encounters a situation that there is not a surname board in existance to move the post to, then the "request a board" link can be accessed and in the comments box, one can put "to move a post to a more appropriate board."
