From: _JYoung6180@aol.com_ (mailto:JYoung6180@aol.com) Nope--there isn't. But the old threads that have a new message added to them will pop up to the top of the list -- so always the threads at the top will be ones that have the newer posts added. Once we get into this system and are more familiar with it and browse around a bit we'll be able to use the little dots that show us unread messages but at first all messages appear as unread. :( Joan ------------------ I'm afraid I have to disagree that this method isn't working the way Joan explained it. I found a reply from yesterday Dec. 6th in a thread from an original post dated Oct. 13th, so the threads with the newer posts are NOT at the top of the list. The only way I found it was by looking at the subject line of the post from my Message Boards: Notifications email, and reading all the subject lines for several pages backwards until I found the original post. I could also have typed the subject line name in the search engine to find the message but all of that "tweaking about" takes longer. Not being able to edit our boards in the Date Expanded mode is too time consuming. Marilyn
This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.rw.admin.badmin/5007/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Good Morning, I tried posting this to the Board Admins list and it wouldn't go through. Not sure what I am doing wrong. I hope that you can help with my questions below. I am sure that we are all working at trying to figure out the new message boards.....I started last night and finally figured out how to log on with the assistance of others. Thank you. I am writing to ask a question. On one of my boards, when you look at the main view of the board, the author that is listed for a particular post is not showing up properly....What I mean is that the way that the post is listed is not the same as the way the notification reads in regards to the author. It is a bit confusing trying to find the post. Is there a way to alphabetize your message admin lists? My list is all jumbled up now and I am having to search for each board....ie the surname boards are mixed in with the locality boards etc. When I clicked on the notification....it took me to Rootsweb to view the post and not Ancestry. That in and of itself is not a problem, but I can't find the log in on Rootsweb. I think that I am getting old and blind. :) The "preview" post button does not work. Any suggestions? The last question, is there some way to know which posts have been read without going into the specific post? The only way that I can see that a post has been read is when I actually click on the post and view the entries....then the orange dot appears to indicate that a particular post has not been read. I was hoping that we would have more admin tools that would make things easier, but thus far it is a struggle. Hopefully they will be able to fine tune things as we go along. Thank you for your time reading this and for any help you can provide. Jennifer
Here's what to do. Close and reopen your browser. GOTO: http://boards.ancestry.com login find the board you want to edit. Click on the "Admin Center" link near the bottom of the page. Save the link in your favorites. The next you want to edit the board, use the favorite link. You have to rename the favorite, because the default is "Message Board" Gene At 06:21 AM 2006.12.07, you wrote: >I have a funny feeling of de-ja-vue - is this the Lists update muddle >through all over again? > >Under the old board system I had a direct link (bookmark/favourite) >to an Admin sign-on page, where all I had to do was click a link and >I was into my Board in admin mode. Funny thing has happened since this morning. I had to type in my sign in name and password for the first board I administered in the morning but also checked the box to remember me and believe it or not, this afternoon when I went through the Rootsweb main page to go to a surname message board I administered, it remembered me!!!!! All I had to do is click the admin thingie at the bottom. Dare I say it, something I like on the new system?? LOL Now will it remember me tomorrow morning when I dial up AOL and go to a board I administer, who knows. Shocked Bob
After I logged in, a list of the boards I admin popped up. I went to the board through that link and was able to find the link to edit the messages. Sharyn, It's not just the non-English accent marks. Here are a few examples of any English word that hasan apostrophe in it: "Death Certificates weren’t issued ......" " You’ll find an address ....." ".....the information you’re looking for ........" Something in the programming needs to be fixed. I've already reported it by clicking on the link to E-mail staff. The accentmarks are coming through as an unreadable mess. Here is an example: Toutefois, j'ai trouvé le 2e M de Rémi veuf de Madeleine Pelletier: il aépousé Zoée Caron (fille de Pierre et d'angélilque Bélanger) le 16 mai 1848à La Pocatière. All old posts have been converted to this mess as well. Regards,Sharyn

Having lived through MANY changes in the past both with lists and boards at RootsWeb, I would just caution everyone not to get carried away with complaints or bugs until you give the new system a chance. DO report what appear to be actual bugs in the system, but other items such as "I liked the display better the old way" -- give these changes time to sink in. We all tend to resist change and it takes time to get into a new routine. I can remember bad comments running into the thousands when the board system this one is replacing came into being in June 2001. So this is nothing new that people are upset by changes and that bugs have cropped up, and will continue to do so, in the new system and these will need to be reported clearly and in detail so that staff can fix them. But .. let's all take a deep breath and relax a bit and just give the new system some time for us to get used to it. Joan

I sent an email to this list about the new look on Roots at 1:30pm, which has not come through yet. Now I have signed in on Ancestry and the same thing happened. The email we received said that there would be a link to "The link to go to the admin center is now located at the bottom of each message board page and appears ONLY when you are logged in with your admin ID." It is not there on my views of either Roots or Ancestry. Rootsweb also does not recognize me as an admin of any boards. Is this normal? Ancestry does. More questions may come up as I explore more. Jennifer Jennifer- In all probability you were auto-logged in, and if so there is a link to the admin center in the bottom row of links on the boards. Check to see if there is a LOGOUT link at the top right--if there is you are auto-logged in. You can get directly to the admin center here: http://boards.rootsweb.com/Default.aspx?view=admin Joan
I took advantage of the feedback link on the bottom of board pages to request that the gateway statement "Posts to this board are copied to the "ASCHE-L" RootsWeb.com mailing list." be moved up to the top of the page where it will be more visible. I guess I would like suggest that everyone do so -- maybe if enough of us make this suggestion it will make a impact. The email address is boardfeedback@rootsweb.com I guess someone reads these!?! I went to check out the new look and found that of the 200+ messages and 74 threads, but I can only see the first 10. When I change it to view 25 or 50 and then back to 10, all I get is a generic page with header and footer links. Likewise when I hit the "Next" link. Yes, I am signed in. What am I doing wrong? I don't think I like this change either. Thanks. Lynn V http://boards.rootsweb.com/board.aspx?p=surnames.fulks&view -----Original Message----- ....and they would stay the old user friendly way. On one of my boards, a message (when viewing it as a message) has in the surnames field: "Surnames: Vecchione, and Gomez" I clicked on "edit" to edit out the word "and", but the surname field in "edit view" does not include the "..., and ..." part, just 'Vecchione, Gomez". Karima
